tonight I shall attempt to pwn CapOne. Since when I call with my account number I can't talk to an account representative, I shall call and put in my girlfriend's account number, talk to a rep and say "oh, actually I was calling for account blah blah blah, I was looking at the wrong card"
stupid capital one credit card! They were charging me that bull**** payment protection crap as well as sending me the credit reports and so I emailed customer service asking how i stop both of those and they said to call customer service to cancel them. I took it one step further and canceled the card since the APR was the same as my WaMu one, and my WaMu one had a higher limit, and I have an AmEx and don't really need 3 CC's.
So I canceled the card and paid off the few bucks balance that was on there, and then I got one of the payment protection charges for $8.99 or some crap so I figured it was just bad timing, and it was only $8.99 so I paid it, didn't think anymore about it. Now I have another statement saying there is another one of those charges, plus an addition credit inform charge. WTF! Yeah, they said the account would be closed once the balance was at $0 for a billing cycle and to cancel any recurring charges (I assumed automatic BillPay stuff) I really didn't think I'd need to say "hey, I want to cancel my credit card and cancel the charges you guys are putting on there" I figured it was all assumed in "I want to cancel my credit card." Why would I want to keep payment protection on a closed account??? So I called Friday evening and got a recording saying "This account has been closed and there is a balance of $XX on it. This is the latest information available to our representatives until Monday morning at 8:00" well I was busy all week with class work, so I just called and got the same message saying 8:00 tomorrow morning...IT'S DURING BUSINESS HOURS!! They are getting to be such a pain in the *** on a closed account

Hey, Matt. Its too late now but closing revolving accounts will ususally hurt your credit score. Its always best to keep all your lines open, just with a 0 balance. This allows your total credit utilization to be lower, shows responsible debt management and adds to credit history. Although in your case I can understand closing it on principle, Cap1 really sucks.

there is something about capitol one CC's that don't really go towards your FICA score. A friend of mine who had one was telling me that they don't report your "good standings" to the 3 credit companies or something of that nature. you might want to check on that.
