It seems to focus fine, other than that first camaro picture, which can be attributed to the lighting and how autofocus reacts.

Nice camera. The camera is only a small fraction of the equation to taking good pix. Since it's digital, just take pix with different settings and see how that changes things to get different effects. Once you know what settings do what, you can work on other stuff like depth of field, composition, etc. Good luck and you'll most likely be spending more on lenses, filters, etc. haha. The body is actually the cheap part. :x

Buying a $2,000 lens before you know how to use the one you have will do you no good. It will just **** you off at how bad the pix are compared to the price of th lens.

Just curious, what $500 lens did you get in the kit?

What long tele lens did you end up with?

The lens is the Canon EFS 17-85mm Image Stabilzer Lens, and the telescopic is just a Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro lens the guy was saying it's not the best lens, but it does good for the out door stuff that I like to do and the only time you will really notice a difference in the lens is when you goto make big pictures with it(he was comparing it to the equivlent Canon EFS Lens which cost about a 1,000) ya I would never buy that 2,000 dollar one until I was more comfortable with the camera. My Telescopic Lens he said is really bad in, indoor kinda pictures especially if I don't have an external flash because it doesn't have very good light gathering

Good, that will get you through a lot. I was afraid the guy sold you a line of BS that the 18-55mm EF-s lens that comes with the basic kit was a $500 lens...

Not sure how useful the IS will be on a lens with that short of a focal length, but on my 100-400mm it has come in handy many times.

The key to getting good shots with that lens - especially as you approach the 300mm side will be fast shutter speeds, and/or a monopod/tripod. It should do well outside, but as you were told - it will struggle indoors...

Pardee's over on ElCamino just West of Watt has a great selection of Canon stuff also...

Action Cameras is more geared towards another camera brand, but I just can not bring myself to use that dirty "N" word...

Any lenses you'd recommend that are comparable with the canon 17-85? I'm gonna return my rebel xt to costco, and get the body only and a different lens, I've also got that sigma 70-300 (certainly not the best indoors/lowlight)

I recommend that you buy my brand new, in box, never used rebel XT... Heh!

Seriously though, what do you plan to shoot and what is your budget?

You mean the name of the bag that i brought my Canon home with? haha ya they have that N word all over there shop. My uncle shoots with Canon also and he loves that shop, i think he just likes the people in it. I will check out that place next time I am looking for a lense, but I am definately going to do what you said first. get use to the camera before I go out spending my left nut on lenses.
