Logic implies... :
1) Engine was suckage from the start
2) Bad engine, just keeps destroying itself as miles are put on
3) Crappy Engine breaks in crappy parts.
or...
1) Run Car Hard
2) Low Oil
3) Less than 1k miles
4) The "Data Recorder" basically tells you EXACTLY what he did with the car
4) Crappy Owner
Conclusion:
1) The Engine was a lemon to begin with or...
2) The Owner did a horrible job breaking it in.
Either way the engine replacement for FREE takes care of any lemonizing his 1st engine had (if it was even a lemon, which i highly doubt since Paul has done engine replacements + had his mechanic throw it all together) because he put in a new engine.
That leaves the last conclusion in which negligence is the indication. The information given far exceeds your OP about tuning with Paul. As a matter of fact it shows that Paul's good judgment of placing that Data Recorder gives him even more reason to tune as he covers his own *** for the assSAKE of others.
