Attn: Scott. or any other cat owners.

are paint fumes bad for kitties? painting starts next week, and my plan was to toss the cats in the dog kennels and stash them in the kitchen since it's already done.

our painter is using a low-voc (low odor) 100% acrylic paint if that matters.

my cats have never had any problems with paint fumes. I usually toss them in the garage though so they dont get in the way...

California EPA approved acrylic paint couldn't harm you if you drank it like a milkshake.

kitties will be fine.

i'd lock them in the garage to prevent any escapees (if they're indoor only) and too prevent from having to clean up a trail of kitty prints in paint going from work room to bedroom/bathroom/etc...

if they're outdoor cats, just keep them out. but make sure they're not the type to dart in under the painters feet throughout the day.
you don't need a lawsuit from some injured painter cus your cat deceided to play "crouching tiger, hidden kitty" while he was on the ladder.

I would be more worried about getting fur in your new coat of paint. They will rub up against it if you are not carefull.

Make sure to lock them up and all should be fine.

good to know about the safety of this stuff.

they're indoor only cats. we crate our ;abs at night, and have 2 huge airline crates for them. i've figured out which 2 pairs of cats get along the best and will crate them accordingly. the kitchen is the safest place for everyone to put them. it's going to get a plastic wall to keep paint out, so that should keep fur in pretty well.

the only real downside is i guess the dogs are sleeping in the kitchen at night.

What is the air flow going to be like in the kitchen? I would worry with the plastic wall up that there isn’t going to be very good airflow and the fumes could build up.

I would get one of those window fans, with the dual directions (like what Scott had when he lived there) and set it up in the kitchen window so you can move air in and out of the room. Then just set your air conditioner a little higher so it doesn’t run all freaking day. It should be too bad for only a couple days and that way you know there is fresh air getting into the kitties.
