Turbo Kit on Impreza L

Hey all.

I was talking to a guy who used to have a Impreza L wagon and he mentioned something about a turbo kit on the Impreza L and that as long as it stayed under 10 psi, that the engine would be okay.

I just thought the topic was interesting/funny, and I was wondering what you guys are thinking.

NOTE: As interesting as this sounds, I won't drop a Turbo Kit in to my Suby. Haha.

the ej22 is a decent engine to toss a kit on. better than the ej25 for sure. lower CR and stronger deck from not being as far bored out. the key to running boost on the n/a engines is engine management. whether it be standalone like the hydra or a simple piggy back like the perfect power 6. this is KEY. the engine will not last anywhere near as long as if you kept it stock with a kit on it though. so the engine blowing isnt a matter of if, but when. but i guess that is a problem with any engine. whats good about the ej18/22/25 is that you can pick up a replacement for next to nothing. so you could blow up your ej22 and pick up another for 300 bucks and drop it in. assuming you are mechanically inclined (you said you werent in the other thread) this can be a viable solution.

you should check out rs25...not to hate on i-club but there is a bigger userbase of people interested in the older models at rs25.

The problem is a turbo kit is 100% illegal. You would have to remove it for smogging and if you get pulled over, expect a nasty ticket...

A properly done EJ25 swap is a better option, that or a WRX swap.

I think I am starting to become a chicken about the future street legality of my Suby. I don't know if I want to risk getting a fat ticket.

If you guys want, you can use my "L" as a guinea pig. When the engine blows, I guess I'll be forced to swap. :P
