Sweet...I knew you'd come thru...I would agree, the added width would be great for traction, but that height difference would certainly be noticeable in autocross.

So, what are the alternatives to Azenis Sports for autocross? I'm thinking with the 8" wide rims and rolled fenders on the rear of my WRX, I'd be an idiot not to run some 245's this season.

I think it's just a matter of weighing added traction benifit vs. Acceleration lost... I don't think my car would mind the taller tire, and if you get the new tranny in, the gearing SHOULD make up for it...There really are not any other alternatives that I want to drop money on...

Even if the 6-speed makes up for the taller tire... I would still be giving up the gearing advantage I'd get with both the 6-speed and the short tire. It's not like I'll have the torque to spin the tires in any gear like you! lol

'Course, if there are no stickier street tires in a 245, then I guess my decision's made for me.

Would it make any differance in *my* track handling if I ran 245's instead of 225's considering my driving skills (or lack there of)?

hahaha how about 4 NASCAR chicks instead? They're everywhere. Just look in you're nearest trailer park.

Deede, it doesn't matter what tire you get... You will destroy them before you get to the track anyways.

Ha Ha
No way! I was going to have designated autocross/track tires, so I won't distroy them. Of course there is the distance traveled to the event that I can eat up the tires with.

Anybody with 17x8s should run a 245/40R17 IMO. Those of us up in Reno and those who know them can get 245/40R17 BFG KDs for $175 each.

Click for other 245/40R17 tires. Those are what I'm going to be running as soon as I get some bigger wheels.

FWIW, the word on KDs is that they are a bit stickier than RE070s, and even worse in standing water. Lowball has been running a set of these for a while.
