Another one bites the dust...

Got what he deserved if you ask me...

BV96, was this one of your buddies by any chance?

One person was killed in a crash in Citrus Heights Thursday morning, and authorities said street racing was involved.

The crash happened near the intersection of Auburn Boulevard and Van Maren Lane.

A white Mustang ended up wrapped around a tree and the vehicle was nearly split in half by the violent impact.

Authorities said the driver of the Mustang was involved in a street race with the driver of a red Honda at speeds of up to 90 mph, before the Mustang skidded out of control and into the tree.

The 19-year-old driver of the Mustang was killed. His identity has not been released. A passenger in the Mustang, also a 19-year-old man, was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with unknown injuries.

A witness helped comfort the injured passenger until emergency crews arrived.

"We just held him, kept him as calm as possible. There was definitely a lot of injuries ... there was blood everywhere. We just kind of tried to keep the passenger as calm as possible," witness Rachel Matthews said.

Witness said the driver of the red Honda fled the scene. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies have located that driver and are questioning him.

Maybe if he sustained injuries to his feet where he couldn't press the gas pedal past 25mph, or something along that lines, that might be what he deserved...but death isn't one of them.

Bah...

He is no longer out there endangering lives. I have seen some crazy cripple drivers that use their hands to control the gas and brakes.

But I agree death is a little harsh, but I don't want my tax dollars paying for a drooling quadriplegic bubblehead electric wheelchair racer that would be a menace on the sidewalks of my town either.

Think about it this way, you get a street racing ticket and it slows you down. A few days later you are back on pole position ricky racing around town and run the risk of crashing in to me, my wife, my family or others (that I could really give two greasy craps about).

This guy will never do it again and I am OK with that. True justice would have been served if the Honda driver had been involved and suffered the same fate. It scks for the passenger, as he is guilty only by association with an assclown here. But you can bet that either him or his family will sue the estate of the driver of the Mustang and the Honda and the Hondatard will pay that way.

Darwin pwns another one!! I never feel sympathetic when a street racer dies... I'm glad he died and not an innocent person like it normally ends up being... I just feel sorry for the family/friends who have to deal with his death, frankly I could care less that he died... Better him then a family going to a soccer game...

They just showed it on the news. The car was totally wraped around a tree, no way the driver could survive since that part of the car was as thin as a sheet of paper... I'm amazed the passanger survived.

Authorities said the driver of the Mustang was involved in a street race with the driver of a red Honda at speeds of up to 90 mph, before the Mustang skidded out of control and into the tree.

The driver of the Mustang, identified as 25-year-old Steve Skattebo, was killed. A passenger in the Mustang, identifies as 17-year-old Matthew Monterio, Skattebo's step-brother,was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with serious injuries.

A witness helped comfort the injured passenger until emergency crews arrived.

"We just held him, kept him as calm as possible. There was definitely a lot of injuries ... there was blood everywhere. We just kind of tried to keep the passenger as calm as possible," witness Rachel Matthews said.

Authorities said the driver of the red Honda, 22-year-old Jason Golson, initially fled the scene but then returned and stood in the crowd before leaving again. He was later arrested on second-degree murder charges.

Investigators said Golson's Honda had been modified for street racing.

Wow, that's rough. Reckless homicide, wouldn't the dead driver make him an accomplice? If he's smart he'll deal and try to get it lowered it to 3rd-degree, and see if he can get 5 years parole with a but load of community service. It might even matter who initiated the race, and at what point did he chose to slow down or back off.

Shouldn't this count as a suicide?

Didn't these guys break some important rules of street racing?

1. Always race in a school zones.
2. Don't bump into a tree.
3. Don't kill yourself.

Guess that's what happens when you bump into a tree at 90 MPH.

wow...thats rough....but hey, you shouldnt street race imo....ive never been big on street racing to begin with but i dont worry about it. theres no way i can stop someone from street racing and if i get hit by one and die from it, oh well then. im not going to sit and worry and complain about something i cant control. i dont know what its like hitting a tree at 90mph, but i know what its like to flip my 88 5.0 in the rain into a ditch
