Angry Almost got an 06 STI

What's up!

I almost got myself an STI, this is the 2nd time I looked at it. Test driven an 05 when it came out and liked it for the most part. I went to the local dealer to check the 06 out and get my car traded in. I was pretty confident that it would all go well and was ready to take an 06 STI out that day since I already had my car appraised at two different dealers (honda and audi) at over kbb dealer trade-in amount. Now, last year when I was looking to purchase an STI or EVO , local mitsu dealer wouldn't even let me take the car out unless I was ready to buy it (w/o a test drive? wtf) so I was really happy that I was able to test drive a brand new STI w/o any paperwork at all (FU Mitsu). Car was great, and looks better in real life than in pictures even with the wings and all and internet sales manager said they would remove the spoiler if I wanted them to.

So here is a let down, when it came to get the numbers for my car they were giving me much much less than kbb trade in . We are talking 3-4k less than what two other dealers were giving me , what gives ?

Here I am, ready to get the STI, did all my homework, paperwork in hand and they 1) didn't know that STI was on a lease special and 2) would low ball me on a trade

Anybody else with similar experience when it comes to trading in a car to Subaru ?

What dealership did you go to, I went to Maita and they started with like 3-4k under blue book and I just laughed at them and said try again... I said "I know exactly how much you guys are going to turn around and sell this car for, so either give me blue book or I am walking out the door" Then he said "If I give you blue book for this and the price you want on the car will you buy today, I said yes I will....

Came back 15 minutes later and I had the deal I wanted exactly, and blue book for the car(car was a 98 Camry)

yup. Just try another dealer. Heck, even call back that same dealer. If they know you're serious about the sale, and they can make even a little money off of your deal somewhere, they should take it.

i worked at a dealer b4 there just covering there a** incase there is something wrong with ur can we would by the cars at whole sale price and thats below trade in value b/c if i took it in on thrade and lets say the tranny was going tho on the day u traded it in it wasn't acting funny then the next day it goes. the dealer has to pay for it. not u. so what i would do is i would take the car to the dealer with the price u agree with and just sell it to them then go to the subaru dealer without the trade tho have them money from hen u sol it and there you go u got ur sti

That's true... If you really want Blue Book on the car... Bring it to carmax

They will no hassle, give you blue book then make the dealership pick you up from CarMax(which they probably would) Then buy the STI for the price that you agreed on

Just my .02 cents

Carmax, I've heard usually gives the highest prices. BUT, that was not true for us when we were selling our Range Rover. The "real" dealers were offering us 17-20k. Carmax offered us 14,300. Because it's color is hard to market. (it was a rare shade of blue) Plus I waited there for just over 2 hours. And they tried to recruit me to work for them... I wasn't too pleased with my experience there.

Be patient, sell your cars privately. I sold my 02' WRX on Craigslist of all places and my magnum on Autotrader.

If I get an 06 WRX/STI it will be right as the 07's are coming in for best wheel and dealage or 1.9 / 2.9 financing if they do that again.

a lot of dealers will tell you they can give you kelly blue book, but they do this to get you in the door. they'll always come back lower. try looking it up with the condition "good" or "fair" to get number closer to what they're going to eventually quote you.

it always helps if you have an "in" at a particular dealership. when my wife and i got our 4-runner, we got kelly blue book for the trade and 250 over invoice for the new one. i'm pretty good friends with the internet sales guy at that dealer, so that's why we got that deal and were out the door in less than an hour.

B.T.W. I took my car in at night when it was dark. waited til just before signing the dealer then hit them on the trade in. Full boat trade in value. I would only let them look at it where I parked it. In a dark corner. You couldnt see any of the door dings or body/ paint damage.

I am sure the trade in manager got fired the next day when the got a good look at it in the daylight!

I understand that there are shady dealers out there, but if kbb lists 27.5 for good condition under dealer trade in, and they offer me 24-25k that's pretty ****ty when Honda and Audi offered more. I ended up getting 28.2 for my car (more than what I paid for a year ago at another dealer, maybe in a couple years i'll check out another STI.
