word. Some of the helpdesk techs at our company used to "rebuild" peoples systems all the time. "email problem? REBUILD", etc. I lol'ed. I stick with Intel/AMD boxes because I like that there is so much software for Windows and becuase of hardware costs. I've been around MACs since highschool and I've just never been a fan.

And uptime isn't necessarily a gauge of system stability. I ran in to a Linux box at work a few months ago that had been up for 1100+ days. It was up. You could ping it. You could log in to it. That's about all you could do. 'ls' hung, 'df' hung, etc, etc, etc. In fact, ****in 'init' hung and we had to power that sum***** off to recycle it.

Rebooting your computer, Mac, IBM Compat or *nix on a regular basis is always a good idea. At work we try to get reboots done once every six months, and since I game so much on my PC I usually bounce it once or week or so, just to give stuff a fresh start.

What does that do? Being the noob I am, I would normally go try that in MSDOS... I don't want it to reboot my cmop and start reformatting. I was the noob in CS:S that would press F10 to get the refreshed ping.... Learned that lesson quick.

<--XP since the day it hit the shelves. not one reinstall. machine runs for months before I reboot do to an update or add some hardware.

It's all the n00bs who just install everything they get there hands on or click 'yes' to any dialog box they see on the internet. If humans could get infected with spyware they (the n00bs) would have it.

There is the argument the MACs are less prone to attack because of the low numbers. Plus what hacker wants to claim he zombied all 7 macs on the internet when he can build an army of n00b users a thousand times larger?

Same could be said for Firefox. OOOhh. firefox is teh invincable. Well it was until people started trying to break it. besides. Opera > Firefox

if anyone has seen the new windope OS Vista you'd see that Windowz is following suit with mac...
Vista is about as close to a ripoff on styling and options as you can get for a OS.

even the transparent quicklaunch bar and things similar to Tiger Dashboard & Widgets.

they now have "Windows Mail" and "Windows Calender" built in...and they added a sherlock style search bar in every window...hmm, wonder where they got that idea.

Wait. Didn't apple steal the widgets from Konfabulator????

Both mac and PC stole 'the mouse' from researchers at Xerox PARC.

yeah, but it just seems like everything that mac had windows Vista is now going to "include."

seems too much like follow-the-leader to me.

i'm not against either since i use both.
they both have their issues.

like macs HATE currupt fonts!
Extensis Suitcarse solved that one!

It wouldn't matter because most of the games people play on PC are not available for MAC OS. I know some are, but not the main ones and certainly not available on the same date as the PC versions. I don't hate Macs, but it was never a gaming system. I would buy one if I was making a home music studio though. I love my ipods to death!

Apparently that might all change. If the masses can do this. (eventually) I might hop on that band wagon. That's just awesome that someone finally did it.

except why would I want to pay extra for a mac when I can already run XP on cheaper more personalized hardware? Oh ya. firewire 800 that must be it I'm gonna start calling my ethernet adapter ethernet 100. Someday I'll upgrade to ethernet 1000.
