mac heads ****ed the entire desktop publishing industry with their whole 'screen images are 72 dpi' retardedness.
I used to love asking my mac counterparts what screen resolution they were running at the time. specs like '17inch' or '19inch' where the answers. That's not a ****en resolution you *****es.

Oh, and pretty much anyone making arguments against buying a Mac hasn't use one for any extended period of time. I did a local survey around my dorms as to how often people have to re-format their hard drives/re-install Windows on their PCs, and the average was every 5 months. Boggles the mind. Make all the arguments for multiple hard drives, etc that you want, but it points to a serious problem.
My G5 tower never turns off. I've never had to re-format, it never crashes. The only times I reboot it is when I have a system update that requires one. That's the beauty of Macs -- they just work. Every furry-toothed geek will argue that they need the latest bleeding edge gaming box, but if your computer isn't primarily a gaming machine, a Mac will work better.
I use Windows boxes at work, and I've been using Macs at home for the last 12 years. Yes, I know that Macs are expensive. But the lack of hassle greatly offsets the price over the life-span of any machine, in my opinion.

OH!!! WTF. Those must be some noobs. An AVERAGE? of 5 months...so there are people reformatting more than twice a year?????? wow, that is just mind boggling.
I have had my laptop for 2.5yrs. XP pro. I have not reformatted once. I was considering reformating because my HD was getting really messy....not because of system instability.
I had another machine, it was an old P3, 933 MHZ.....It shipped with ME in early 2000. I upgraded to XP pro in 2002, and didn't reinstall until 2005. I didn't reinstall ME ever.
Hrmm, 7.5 Yrs of PC use. 1 re-install.
too bad I wasn't in your survey....I would have skewed the numbers a bit.
My new machine, 3GHZ. Pentium D 830, XP Pro, and It has stayed on for the two weeks or so, since I built it. No crashes, no system instability. Hrmm, whatever though....it will probably be shut off alot more often now......I don't see too much sense in leaving it on all the time. I know...extra wear and tear on HD spinning up, etc....whatever. I have never (knock on wood :-) had a HD crash from head contact, or bearing failure, or anything of that nature....maybe I am just a lucky guy.
That may not be typical, I understand how to maintain my system. Any noob can break any brand of machine, give them enough time....
I didn't even know that many people in your dorm know how to reinstall their OS..... I bet I wouldn't have the same results in the dorms at UC Davis here...dunno..and if you are here at Davis...well then, maybe conduct a broader survey :-P

the reason people format so much is no one knows how to fix a computer. When you have someone that knows nothing about them (yeah, these people should be using a Mac) and something goes wrong, just format.. fixes everything
I have a build of winxp up and running for over 3 years now.. with no issues. Hey guess what, I know how to fix something besides Format C: /y
