Go ahead and draw your own conclusions from that statement… It’s obvious that I can’t post mine here without getting people butt hurt.

Were you getting your facts? I don't mind (and in fact nobody minds) that you post your own opinion. Just be ready to defend what you have to say.

Sure there are some teachers that should not be there but that can be said for any line of work.
I think the problem is with the pay scale. My wife has a 4 year degree plus her teachers credential that took an additional 2 years of schooling. On top of that she is not far from her masters degree and has her annual continuing education goals that she has to meet in order to keep her job. All of this and she could probably make more money as a cashier at your local grocery store.
She loves what she does (most of the time) but she has to deal with many children that are the rejects of society. Lets see, she has had the retard that the parents wanted to mainstream, the child of the KKK that she had in the past because she was the only white teacher of the grade level he was in at the time and the father had threatened the previous teacher who was Hawaiian. She has had children that were messed up because of their lack of parental involvement in their lives that craved attention and would do anything to get it from pretending to be a cat and scratching and hissing at people to flushing sporks down the toilet and shutting down the entire schools plumbing system.
She has to privide her own glue, paper, crayons, kleenex, etc because there is no budget for it. And her $100 (maybe $200) per year from the district does not even come close to covering the costs. She spends hours of her own time working on lesson plans, planning projects and correcting the homework/tests - far more than the 8 hours a day most people work. I have gone to the school with her on many weekends to help with bulletin boards, correcting tests and preparing the things that need to be ready when the kids get to school.
She has children that can not even write their own name, can not read a below grade level book and children that have parents that refuse to even sit down and read with the kids for 15 minutes a night. She has parents that do the homework for the kids and try to pass it off as if the kids did it because little johnny had a baseball game or a movie to go to. I can only imagine what teachers in low income districts have to put up with.
Hell even on top of all of that she has to deal with a social deviant like me when she gets home - my wife is a saint!
If the pay is not there you will not attract as many good people. She has friends that have lost their jobs or had pay cuts because they missed their continuing education deadlines by a matter of weeks. How the hell do you expect that we will get good teachers when they have to put up with all of this and more?

I'm sorry, I fail to see what's not true about what I posted.
I'm sorry... Doesn't that post imply that I've had first hand experience with what it takes to become a teacher? Do you not agree that *SOME* rejects become teachers because it is a FACT that it is easy to become one?
heh..
Edit: I'm sorry that Ali G and Aaron are taking this personal. I am sure there are some exellent wives and mothers out there that go above and beyond what it takes...

I must be the only one that can see the correlation between the process of becoming a teacher and the rejects who are among them...

There are several paths to becoming a teacher, at minimum you’ll need to complete a four-year bachelor’s degree program:
Baccalaureate Certification (four-to-five years): Some schools offer a four-year Bachelor of Education or a three-year Bachelor degree plus one-year postgraduate teacher education such as a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching.
Post-Baccalaureate Certification (ten-months-to-two-years): These programs cover the courses necessary for teacher certification in your state. Post-baccalaureate programs can take anywhere from ten months of full-time study to two years of part-time study. Some programs offer certificates/diplomas in education and others offer master’s degrees in teaching.
Emergency Credential (immediate): Because of the teacher shortage, some school districts offer the option to begin teaching without having completed a certification program. Teachers with a bachelor’s degree are granted an emergency credential after passing a test, with the understanding that the teacher will enroll in a certification program within the first six months on the job.
Provisional Credential (immediate): These credentials allow college graduates who do not meet licensure requirements take only those courses that they lack, and then become licensed, which may take one or two semesters of full-time study.

Bring the tech to the table or shut the hell up and go deliver that pizza - it has to be there in 20 minutes or less or it comes out of your check...

337drew, it's not as easy as you may think to become a teacher. both of my parents are teachers, and actually they teach special ed (no ali g, i can't get pictures of teh students). it took a hell of a lot more than some 60 unit credential for them to be qualified for their jobs. in fact, both of them hold multiple masters degrees.
please share your profession here so we can have a laugh at how easy it is to become qualified for that job.

CSU's give a TON free of scholorships based on what area or ethnic backgroud you come from. What makes you think some crack head off the street can't get a free ride through one of these ALREADY EASY programs simply because the State wants to increase the number of X's they have graduated from a certain background.

Ok, so your ex GF skated through a particular program, and it sounds like you have issues with your dad. I cna understand how that might color your impressions, but you've got to recognize that that's not the norm. Continuing to claim the points you're making is just making you look more juvenile and closed-minded. If you said "I've had bad experiences with teachers in my life", we'd nod and and say OK. **** happens. But to extrapolate from your experience out to the entire field is unfair.
That's like me saying that becuase you can get a CS degree from Heald that teaches you nothing and that any jackass can get through (becuase I knew a guy who did it), that a CS degree from a 4 year university is the exact same thing, and that any jackass can just walk out and get a CS degree from a 4 year university with no problems. There's a ton of other factors, and though there are some bad apples, teachers are some of the most dedicated people I know. They're sure not doing it for the money; I make more now than my mom did when she retired.......

Hrmm, lets see. My biological father born in England graduated with a Degree in zoology (wtf is that?) comes over here, takes a few night classes and gets a teaching degree. He's the worst roll model and has many problems in his life. Does he fit in the "reject" category? Yes...
Seriously, he could make a great science teacher with that background. Just because he walked out on your because you were born "special" in an olympic sort of way does not make all teachers bad and jokes.
You are butthurt because the ex left you for a man half your age but twice your jock size and that daddy grew a brain and got as far from your life as possible. It just happens that both of them are teachers - maybe there is more to this than you are letting on. Do you feel like you are getting back at them by posting bad things about their line of work? Please seek professional help dude...
