2007 Track Days

The schedules aren't posted yet, but here are a couple of ticklers:

I can think of no better ways to start the new year than to spend a
day at the world renown Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. So if you plan to
be sober and want to begin the new year with a roar, join me at
Laguna Seca on Monday January 1st!

If you can commit to attending this event, please reply to this email

will confirm the date with Mazda Raceway and the event will be on.

TMR may have the opportunity to run Laguna Seca with the S2KCA Club (Honda S2000 Club) on Monday, January 8th. In addition, our friends at NASA have offered us an opportunity to have our own dedicated TMR run group within their event on Sunday, January 7th. That's potentially two days of track time at Laguna! This may make the trip for some of you well worth it.

Why January?

Due to 'issues' with the new track surface, planned re-paving in May, and other events planned to be hosted by the County of Monterey, Skip Barber, and SCRAMP, there are just as few dates available to clubs this year as there have been over the past 2 years. The only dates offered to clubs like ours and the S2KCA are in the the 1st and 2nd week of January.

Yes, we know this is right on the heels of the holidays, but it may be one of the only opportunities to get on the track in the first half of 2007. The word from the track event scheduling person is that there won't be any other dates offered until November, 2007. So, unless you race SCCA or in the Historics, track time at Laguna will be very slim again in 2007.

OK, what to do now?

Well, we need to get an idea of how many of you are willing to run 'rain or shine' on one or both days, and commit your track dollars NOW. The Sunday at the track with NASA still needs to be worked out from a time on track and cost perspective, but it will be the most 'bang for your buck' as possible. (typical for TMR events) As a matter of fact, if we do end up running January 8th, it will be priced very reasonably. Probably about $260 (or less) per car.

Format

Given the time of year, the risk we'll all be taking from a weather perspective, we would prefer to run 3 run groups of 20 to 23 paid participants per group. However, if there isn't enough interest, then we may need to run a 4th run group and add a Novice run group.(which means adding Instructors to the event - thus the need for a 4th run group)

Interested? If so, reply with the following questions answered:

1. Are you willing to attend 'Rain or Shine' and commit your dollars now? Y/N

2. Are you interested in running both days for a combo/package price? ONE DAY / BOTH DAYS (price is TBD, but will be very reasonable. Possibly $400 or less)

3. What is your preference re. run groups? 3 Run Groups / 4 Run Groups

Note: 3 Run Groups could mean NO Novice Run Group, 4 Run groups means we run a Novice Run Group.

4. What Level would you want to drive in? Novice, Low Intermediate, High Intermediate, or Advanced.

5. If you answered 'NO' to question #1, would you change your mind if a rain out cancellation fee were available for approximately $150? Y/N (this means you would get all your fees back minus $150 if we had to cancel due to rain. Details and decision criteria are still to be determined for cancellations, but this is a scenario we will investigate)

If you're interested, please reply as soon as possible with your answers so we can firm-up a plan, event format, complete our negotiations with NASA & the S2KCA Club, and finalize the event cost for each of you. If there isn't enough interest between this week and next week, we may decline the opportunity.

Thanks for your time, and Happy Thanksgiving!!

More info on Laguna Seca:

The light is 'GREEN' and we're ready to go for the Sunday / Monday event at Laguna Seca on Jan 7th/8th. On Jan 7th, TrackMasters Racing will have it's own run group within the NASA event, and on Monday the 8th we'll be running the Honda S2000 Club(S2KCA) event for them. Come out and play before they shut the track down for more surface repairs during the month of May!
We'll also be organizing a dinner party on Sunday night, January 7th for those interested in spending some social time with other drivers over some of the finest Italian food in the Monterey area!

Here's the format(s):

Sunday, January 7th - Dedicated TMR run group within the NASA event planned for that day. No other NASA drivers will be driving with us as this is a 'dedicated' TMR set of sessions. Each session will be 25 minutes in length, and there will be 4 of them. That's 100 minutes of track time for $250.
http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/h...ir_1-7-07.html

Monday. January 8th - This will be a 4 run group format BUT.... our plan right now is to have the 4th run group for 'Staff' and Instructors. These 'Staff' sessions will be shorter and fewer in quantity, which will provide 2 benefits to the paying customers - 1. More track time for all levels, and 2. an opportunity for some of Advanced and Intermediate cars to get additional track time, as space permits, within the Staff sessions. There will be an Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice run group at this event, and all participants can expect at least 110 minutes of time behind the wheel on Monday. This event will include continental breakfast, coffee, juice, etc in the morning, and lunch will be provided IF we hit our target number of paid participants for the day. (one more reason to spread the word about the event to your friends and on any forums you frequent) This event is already priced lower than most at this track, and our goal is to keep the participant car count at 25 or less per run group.
http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/h...ir_1-8-07.html

Registration
Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season, it's impairative that those interested in attending register ASAP, and pay immediately! With the holiday break just before our event, there's no time to waste collecting registrations and payments. That said, if you register for one or both dates, you will be required to make an immediate payment via Paypal, or send a check within 5 calendar days from the date you registered. Those of you who prefer to use a credit card can do so via Paypal. No cash or checks will be accepted at the event for pre-registered drivers. All drivers must pre-pay for this event.

If we don't have enough registrations and payments by December 18th, then we'll re-visit the financials for the event and decide if it's worth putting on or not. At this point we're 100% committed, so we'll be hitting all the forums and other clubs hard this week to round-up attendees! Registrations will be accepted strictly on a first come, first served basis. No special lists, etc. Just by the time and date stamp for each registration received.

Event fee for Monday, January 8th is $275

Both event dates can be had for $505 ($20 savings!)

Weather and Rain Out Insurance
We will be running Rain or Shine and Not be offering any sort of Rain Out insurance for this event for the following reasons:
1. Not enough interest (23 of 90 who responded to or earlier message about this event)
2. The process to determine what constitutes a 'rain out' 48 to 72 hours prior to and event, and the complexities of stopping all services/contracts over the preceeding weekend.

The good news is that we could have weather like we've seen this past week - clear and cool. That will do just fine for all of us!!
Format for the Sunday run group within NASA
This will be our 'Mixed' rules.

What's 'Mixed'? We've run many events with this group designation. All it means is that any car in that group that does NOT want to be passed without authorizing the pass first with a hand signal(point), will be wearing a bright colored vinyl stick-on 'Dot' on the back of their car. If in the 'Mixed' run group you come up behind a 'Dotted' car, then you cannot pass that car until they give you a point by. All other cars in the 'Mixed' run group without a 'Dot' can be passed with open passing rules.(Advanced passing rules) It is expected that you have a minimum of 8 events experience to run inside a mixed run group. It's really important for the faster drivers in this run group to know that they'll be out there with experienced and aware drivers who watch their mirrors and offer pro-active point bys! If you are a lessor experienced driver and want to run in a slower or less experienced run group, then please contact NASA for space in their Group 1 or 2 sessions the same day.

Next Steps
1. Register for one or both days. Website is updated NOW!!

http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/index.html

2. Make a payment immediately via Paypal, Credit Card through Paypal, or check. Remember, you must get a check to us within 5 calendar days of your registration.

Thanks again, and help us spread the word about this event as far and wide as possible!

Take care,

Doug Gale

Last June more than 70 drivers made the original track event a success. Through your registration, contributions and raffle ticket purchases, we raised more than $10,000 for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (www.ccfa.org). Next year I hope to at least match that total.

The driver fee for GGATII is only up slightly, to $225. In 2007 we will again have 3 run groups, one (1) advanced group (30 drivers) and two (2) intermediate groups (25 drivers each), so you can still expect more than two hours of track time. And of course lunch and refreshments will be provided. The minimum experience requirement will be two (2) prior track days … instructors will not be provided. And of course, the raffle next year will be even bigger than last June’s event.

The website at www.gotgutsatthunderhill.com has been updated, and we are now accepting registrations. I know, its early, but last summer I had to turn away more than two dozen drivers. So if you want to ensure a spot, please don’t wait until the last minute. Contact me at freescopesdad@comcast.net if you need more information. See you at the track.

TrackMasters Racing has had exceptional luck with the weather this 2007 season with 2 perfect days at Laguna Seca, 2 at Infineon/Sears Point, and another perfect weather day at Thunderhill on April 13th. Very nice for all of you who attended!

As always, keep in mind that we have the some of the best values for your 'track buck' in the region. Discounted 'TrackPacks', continental breakfast, catered lunch, bottled water throughout the day, T-Shirts at some events, etc. We also offer race testers half day opportunities for events preceding NASA race weekends at Thunderhill. We've never charged exorbitant 'membership fees' for you to drive with us, and our prices our always fixed. Conduct your own comparisons and you'll find that TMR events give you the best value for your track dollar. Our team also has 11 years of experience, and 53+ events under our belt! More than any other club in the region, with the exception of NASA. So, who do you want to drive with?

Ok, now on to the serious stuff... Track Events!

1. May 11th, Thunderhill - about a dozen spaces are available, so check your calendars and come out and play! The weather should be perfect!

2. May 26/27th, Reno/Fernley - 23 Turns and 4.2 miles per lap! Does that sound fun or what! We only host one weekend a year at Fernley, so help us continue the tradition by spreading the word and bringing a friend or two. As a matter of fact, if you refer another driver and both of you join us at this event, we'll give each of you a $20 credit towards another TMR event in 2007! This combined with our already low price of $215 a day or $410 for 2 days, makes this a great opportunity and value. Why pay $40 to $60 more per day to run with some of the other clubs in the region?

Spread the word, tell or bring a friend, and have a great time experiencing another new stretch of road! RV camping is allowed, and we currently have a block of rooms at a local hotel booked.

3. June 1st, Thunderhill - Just 5 days after we return from Fernley we'll be back at Thunderhill. Kind of tight, but for those of you who can't make the haul to Fernley, we've got you covered with a track day to fill your void! 8^)

4. July 21, Infineon - This is a BIG event and on a Saturday. We'll have the Sacramento Region Porsche Club running an AutoCross in the paddock behind the main grandstands(as we've done the past 4 years), and the rest of us will be on the big track having a blast! This is a great event and is always a hit with drivers and spectators! Bring the family and have a great time!

This event is about 1/2 full as of today, so check those calendars and secure your slot before we sell out!

5. July 29th, Thunderhill - Another one of our typical T-hill days, except this one is on a Sunday! Plan on a little fun time in town and in the paddock the night before, and some fun in the sun the day of the event!

6, 7, and 8. August 10th, September 21st, and October 12th at Thunderhill - Typical great days at Thunderhill.

9. Nov 9/10th, Thunderhill - Our Thunderhill season closer and a double header! (Friday/Saturday) Bring out your family and toyz, and enjoy T-hill one last time before the season change & holidays. We'll have a big BBQ and party in the paddock on Friday night, and RV access all night. This will be a fun one!

10. Dec 6/7th, Laguna Seca - Day 1 will be a TMR event, and Day 2 will be a Sacramento Region PCA event. The first day will be managed under our typical TMR rules and guidelines, and the second day will be run under PCA rules. A great opportunity to get 2 back to back days on this wonderful track!

Again, all of these events are open now for registration, and some of our discounted 'TrackPacks' are still available to get you additional savings throughout the season. Go to www.trackmasters-racing.com for more event details and event registration.
Remember, if you like our program and the variety of tracks and events we bring you, then please continue to support our events. Without your support we wouldn't be able to offer you the best variety of track dates and locations in the region!

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you in the paddock!

Take care,

Doug Gale

These discount programs have been very popular, and they can save you a significant amount of money throughout the season. More on those when we have a solid schedule and event pricing.

(hint... First event is Laguna Seca on Feb 28th...)

Nov 9/10 Thunderhill - We still need drivers for this event! Our Novice run group is very sparce, and there are many slots available in the Advanced run group. Keep in mind that this is a 2 day event with only 3 run groups per day. That means you'll be too tired to continue before your sessions end each day! We're also hosting a BBQ in the paddock on Friday night, and overnight camping is also OK on Friday night. Oh yeah, the weather.... It looks great for the pair of days! Cost it $240 one day, or $460 for both days.

Dec 6/7 Laguna Seca - This event is currently waitlisted for most groups on both days. However, we still have a few Advanced and Low Intermediate slots on Friday, Dec 7th. If you want one you better sign-up soon!

Miller Motorsports Park
Speaking of events... Who wants to go to Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah? This is one of the finest facilities on the map, and one that I'd like to check out myself. We've been discussing the possibility of running with 2 other groups (3 clubs mixed into 1 event), so we can all enjoy the track and pay the bills. We obviously can't fill a Utah based event with just TMR drivers, so partnering with a couple of other clubs is the next best thing.

The dates we're looking at are June 23/24 (Monday/Tuesday) and we would run the West Track one day, then the East track the next. Both are about 2.2 miles in length. If you are interested in attending one or both days, let us know right away so we can decide if there's enough interest from our group. 'Yes', it's a long haul out to Salt Lake City, but Miller is one of the premier tracks in the country. Also, there may be an opportunity to hit Fernley on the way out or back?? The cost per day could be around $300 ~ $325 each day. However, if we have more drivers willing to make the trip, then the price will go down.

TMR Website
As many of your are aware, the TMR website is ready for an overhaul. We have recently contracted with a web developer to create a new and highly automated website, which will greatly improve your experience registering and paying for events. Some of the many features will be:

- Realtime Event Registration with a view of who's coming to each event
- Automated confirmation notes for registrations and payments
- Credit Card payment capability along with Paypal and payment via Check
- User accounts with profiles you can edit (update vehicles, number of events you've attended, etc)
- User business advertising (banner ads, and a page for locally owned member businesses)
- Track Stuff - sale of TMR apparel and other car 'stuff'
- Image gallery of all of us on track
- Classifieds to sell your cars, parts, tow vehicles, trailers, etc. (free to all members)

The site should be rolled out before our first 2008 event. Stay tuned!
That's if for now. Take care and we'll see you in the paddock this season or next!
