2006 Track Days
Thunderhill - June 19, 2006
Got Guts at Thunderhill
An Open Track Day
June 19, 2006
SAMOA, the Sacramento Area Miata Owners Association, is proud to sponsor an open track day at Thunderhill Raceway Park, Willows, California, on Monday, June 19, 2006. This will be a traditional track event with 3 run groups, 6 scheduled 20-minute sessions per group (with an open session at the end of the day), and optional instruction for novices. Groups A and B will be limited to 25 cars each, and the novice group to 20 cars. Our event will emphasize safety and fun. Although SAMOA is a Miata club based in Sacramento, drivers of all types of cars are welcome. The cost is just $210 per driver ($225 after May 31, 2006).
The event is being presented as a benefit to raise money for the Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for IBD – Inflammatory Bowel Disease. All net proceeds of track-related activities and 100% of all raffle receipts will go directly to CCFA. Raffle prizes are being solicited from more than 50 Miata and other general automotive vendors, and prizes will be raffled during the lunch break so that on-track activities will not be affected.
A website has been created to promote this event – http://www.gotgutsatthunderhill.com. At the site you will find complete event information, signup forms, and prize and driver lists. Please check it out. If you need additional information feel free to contact me via email at freescopesdad@yahoo.com or by phone at (916) 454-1008. Looking forward to seeing you at the track…

This will be the 3rd Seaon Reno SCCA has sanctioned this series, and with 10 event days in 2006, it will definately be a very competitive and exciting season.
Car classes are based on Solo 2 Autocross classes, which means most of the cars that can run at track days can compete in Club Trials. Last year, a few of the Reno Sti's were VERY competitive in classes with Corvettes and Porsches. Club Trials is a great option for track-goers, and adds a new element to track days.
SCHEDULE
April 29-30 Event 1 Reno-Fernley Raceway- Fernley, NV
June 10-11 Event 2 Derby Field (Airport-Temporary Circuit)-Lovelock, NV
July 22-23 Event 3 Reno- Fernley Raceway- Fernley, NV
Sept. 16-17 Event 4 Reno-Fernley Raceway- Fernley, NV
Oct. 21-22 Event 5 Derby Field (Airport-Temporary Circuit)- Lovelock, NV
Costs are still to be determined, but you can usually plan on paying $100-$150 per Weekend! Great value. PM me for details if interested.

So is the run format like autoX? You get 5 laps or so?

It's slightly different.
In Each Session, you run a warm up lap, then 3 to 5 consecutive timed laps, depending on what the event calls for. You have two or three run groups, so you do 2 or 3 "runs" like that. So, you end up with a lot of timed laps, your best time for the whole day counts.

I wanna go to T-Hill/Infineon...
Maybe I'll hold off on the engine build and run it around T-Hill, I was doing some canyon Carving nice and easy and the car definately didn't seem to mind the big turbo... So I'll just bring 6 quarts of oil, and I should be good to go!! haha Run her on 18 psi, I should be fine...

Groups of 4 or 5 cars on RFR, which are set into groups by qualifying times. So with spacing, you never really catch the other cars.
At the Airport circuit though, you are on track alone.

if you are a first timer at the track, do they give you some time training about certain rules etc. I don't want everyone to be mad at me if I do something wrong.

I've run with both Trackmasters and UnlimitedLaps and their instructors are great. Most of them are very experienced drivers who run in the red or advanced group.
After your first couple of sessions, and if your instructor is willing, ride shotgun with him/her in one of their red group sessions. You will get a new appreciation for driving skill and what you will eventually be able to do.
Most of all, have fun your first time out. Don't expect to be lightening fast. Take things at your own pace and learn the track, your car, and yourself.
p.s.: It is addicting. Be prepared to become a track *****.

The track called and offered us the date late last week, and also informed us that during the 2nd half of the 2006 season there will only be 2 dates offered to track car clubs, and they're in late November. That said, we jumped on the opportunity even though it's just around the corner and between several other events we're hosting in the month of March. This may be the last opportunity for many of us to run Laguna this season.
Because of the short notice and proximity to other events, we've decided to initially make this a Motorcycle and Car event as we've done several times in the past. The current plan is to run 2 motorcycle run groups, and 1 Mixed car run group. The mixed car run group consists of Advanced & High Intermediate with unique passing rules for each. (we've also run this format many times before and it works well)
The format for this event will vary depending the interest we receive from each of you. If there isn't enough interest quickly from the Motorcycle community, we may flip the format and make it 2 Car run groups and 1 Motorcycle. If this were the case, we would run 1 Advanced, 1 Intermediate car run group, plus 1 motorcycle group.
Registration is now open for this event, so if you fall into the Advanced or High Intermediate category, you can register immediately. All other Intermediates can send us a note at this address (just reply to this message) to let us know that you would like to attend if the format changes. Price is $290, sound limit is 92db, and this will be a 3 run group format regardless of the mix of cars vs. bikes. That means a lot of track time!
http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/h...r_3-21-06.html
Interested in our other events?
March 10 at T-Hill is about 10 slots away from filling.
March 30 at Infineon is just about full.
March 31 at T-Hill is about 3/4 full.
All are open for registration now.
Thanks and PLEASE spread the word about this Laguna event so we can put on another great day at this facility!
See you in the paddock!
