The bad thing is.........I'm starting to want to do more track days and less autocrossing. Better start a track event savings account to pay for it. lol

Egan: Have you run at Reno-Fernley? The pics of the track look neato. Just wondering how it compares speed-wise to Thunderhiill.

I have not run the latest addition which makes it 3 miles. Contact user: LAGNWAGN for the skinny. He ran out there last week on the new section.

I can tell you the old section before they added the extra technical stuff is uber fast. The front straight is long and the first two corners aren't really corners so you really carry a lot of speed.

BTW folks - the preliminary schedule for Thunderhill 2006 is up: http://www.thunderhill.com/html/calendar.html

It looks like unlimitedlaps should have a few days through the year along with the Trackmasters events listed in the first post. There are plenty of other groups running so no one has an excuse not to get out at least a couple of times in 2006.

As far as Reno Fernley goes, the new 3 mile configuration I ran last weekend, will be the primary setup for track days, IMO. Some footage can be seen here if you'd like to check it out.

The new section has a lot of elevation change, off camber turns, blind turns and speed. It is very technical. The part of the old configuration that are used remain VERY fast. Sti's top out 5th gear on the straight under normal circumstances. You probably won't see that in this footage as it was 33 degrees that day and I was taking it a bit easy.

Enjoy, I hope to see a few Norcal peeps in Reno this season...

Update from Trackmasters:

The 3rd is open to Advanced and Intermediate drivers only and is a dedicated TMR run group within another clubs event. Only those signed-up for the 2nd will be allowed to sign-up for the 3rd. The event on the 2nd is 2/3 full, and 3/4 full on the 3rd.

We are one of the last groups to run the track before they close it for more upgrades in May/June. After discussing the season with the track and reviewing their calendar, there may not be any opportunities for any private clubs to run the track until October/November of 2006. That said, you may want to sign-up before we sell out.

2. Infineon/Sears Feb 24th - This event is now open and is a 3 Run Group Format. Typically we run 4 run groups, but since this is an early season event we've decided to run 3 and give you the most track time for your buck! We may also run another Autocross in the back paddock as we did last month. This event is the Friday before the Golden Gate Region Porsche Club Time Trials weekend, so if you drive a P-car, you can get plenty of seat time on Friday to bring those times down over the weekend! The event opened for registration today, so check those calendars and sign-up quickly!

I'd like to add to the Track days, the Reno SCCA Schedule for CLUB TRIALS Events. Club trials IS NOT Autocross. This series is derived from the past Solo 1 series, which is high speed time trial lapping on a raceway or temporary circuit. This will be the 3rd Season Reno SCCA has sanctioned this series, and with 7 event days in 2006, it will definately be a very competitive and exciting season.

Car classes are based on Solo 2 Autocross classes, which means most of the cars that can run at track days can compete in Club Trials. Last year, a few of the Reno Sti's were VERY competitive in classes with Corvettes and Porsches. Club Trials is a great option for track-goers, and adds a new element to track days.

SCHEDULE
April 30 Event 1 Reno-Fernley Raceway- Fernley, NV

June 10-11 Event 2 Derby Field (Airport-Temporary Circuit)-Lovelock, NV

July 22-23 Event 3 Reno- Fernley Raceway- Fernley, NV

Sept. 16-17 Event 4 Reno-Fernley Raceway- Fernley, NV

Costs are still to be determined, but you can usually plan on paying $100-$150 per Weekend! Great value. PM me for details if interested.
