Theres tons to do besides skiing, but you will not like it here if you do not like outside stuff. In Vail you will find lots of bars and a few clubs, but it will probably take a while to get to know where the locals hang out and where it is actually cheap (A problem in Vail). However, if you arn't into the whole, "skiing or being outside any moment of free-time" you may not like it as much as many of us who live here for that reason.
Performance shops wise there are a few down here in Denver, such as Tarmac Racing (engineering maybe? I dont know), boostbuddy.com (though I dont know if he is doing work, and flatirons subaru.

There's
Street Concepts
http://www.sc-power.com/
boost Buddy
http://www.boostbuddy.com/
Tarmac
http://www.tarmac-usa.com/flash/index.html
Racing Trenz
(don't think they have a website)
just to name a few. They're all in the Denver area though. Not too sure about what's up in the mountains.
There's a TON of things to do, but most of us are down in the city, so I can't speak for the vail scene. I'm sure there's plenty up there too.
