WRX Racing characteristics...
K guys I was talking to a fellow WRX owner and we came to the conclusion that NO ONE talks about how a WRX acts in the Racing feild. Lets not all just learn the hard way but lets Spread the knowledge we have about out cars and then go from there. I am no Pro by any means but I do have a lil bit of things that my help the beginners.
I have a STOCK WRX WAGON:
The WRX loves to go side ways and in the Stock set up you have to tweak the setting to get good rotation in the Rear. The WRX tends to Understeer so when dial in a nice setting to get the rears to rotate better you will drop a few tenths if not Seconds off you lap time.
To get good rotation in the Rear you can mess around with the Tire Pressures. I ran F--42psi R--42psi in my first few runs the I changed it to F--45psi R--52psi the car started to rotate alot better. I even dropped 2 seconds off my lap time on each run.
Alot of ppl say that with a Toe setting of 1/16 or 0 you will get better rotation in the rear.
Please spread what ever knowledge you have about the WRX Character when Pushed hard. Not too many ppl know how they handle or what can be done to get better. Thanks in advance!!

Umm.... care to explain what type of racing you're trying to get info on?
The reason I ask is a track setup will be different from track to track, as will autoxes based on length, tightness and surface.
There's no one correct way to 'set-up' your car that will help you get the most out of it.
Good idea in theory, but futile in execution.
But you did hit one point that is correct. Toe out will get better rear rotation.
Tire pressures are a 'feel' thing. You could go lower and still get more rotation.

Im refering to Auto X... this is the Auto X portion of the Forums
I know it varies from course to course but my main objective here is to try and give out some of the things we have experienced so other ppl can try them and see what may work for them. No one here talks about how they like to set-up there car or some disadvantages and advantages a certain set-up have.
Obviously we all have personal prefferences with our set ups but I wanted other ppl to get some Idea of how to set-up there cars so they have a general idea of whats going on.

Our next auto-x isn't until the middle of April, but I'd like to try experimenting with the air pressure differential. The plan so far is to start off with the fronts a couple of pounds higher than the rear, then even, then the rears higher.
I had better luck running higher pressures all around, slightly lower in the rear. I beat a couple of guys who always beat me. This was on the stock re92's. I ran 50psi front and 47 in the rear. That's enough air in the rears to get the car to rotate through the corner and the higher pressure up front helps to keep from rolling the tire over onto the sidewall which causes teh big shudder and push you will feel from the front end. This was in a wagon with the only suspension mod being a sedan rear swaybar and, for power, a turbo back exhaust and a Cobb STX legal reflash (about 260 horsepower). Lower pressure in the rear kind of goes against how I thought it would work, but it just goes to show that experimenting is good.

If you want to get the rear to come arround try adjusting the toe in the rear. It is easy to do, you can do it in minutes. I do it in the morning at the event before my runs. mark the current position with a paint marker then turn the adjusting bolt so that you get full toe out and you are done. for what we do toe is not an exact science. If you want you can go a step father and run the car down to the shop and have them do it marking factory spec and full toe out. you also dont have to go all the way to full out ward toe to feel the effect. Becare ful one your first run as the car will rotate when you lift the gas. Use ti to point the nose then get back on the gas!

OK what adjustment **** or bolt are u talking about? I Have a stock car but I have to admit I never looked for the bolt. Where is it and when I try to adjust it what way do I turn it? What happenes if I want ti back to stock? what happens if I do it too much? Let me know please!
I'm running my Kumho Victoracers at 38 in the front and 35 in the rear. Since the car understeers so much it seems to need more pressure in the front to keep the fronts from rolling over too far onto the sidewall.
Another characteristic is lots of lift off oversteer. I did an autox in the wet and if you lift off too much you will be swapping ends before you know whats going on. But a little bit of lift can cancle the understeer and put you in a nice controlled slide. But thats just on a wet course. When I ran in the dry with R compound tires all I got was understeer.
