Depends what you want it for. You have to ask yourself if you want closed or open face and then you budget. I use an open faced Simpson helmet just like what Earnhardt used when he died. If you want a good cheap go to motorcycle shops and ask for the Snell helmets they typically have them for like $80-$100 get one that’s comfortable. Those will be m2000, sa2000 is nomex fire lined and cost about $100 more.

hey thanks detroitwrx, i actually went to a motorcycle shop and they said they would sell me a helmet for moto, but they dont carry auto. One reason being moto helmets are for one big impact, where as auto helmets are made for more impacts such as a car rolling. That is the explanation he offered me. But ima buy Arai gp-5 helemt used in F1 and nascar. I think i should ensure my safety. =) thanks guys

they are closeout. i believe this is because bieffe employees in Italy went on strike. i heard this about six months ago from a bieffe importer. therefore they may be hard to find. but you can always get a bell or simpson helmet or any Snell rated helmet for that matter. just find a website that sells racing safety equipment.

I have a Simpson LX SA2000 open face helmet for autoX. I like it because to me, it's not claustrophobic like a full face (I've worn my moto full face in rallyX and ice racing and didn't like it) and it's comfy.
I got mine directly through Simpson and paid a bit more for black.

I use an HJC helmet I picked up from a motorcylce shop (Kawasaki of Hayward if I remeber correctly). It's a M2000 rated helmet and cost around $130. My co-worker has the more expensive SA2000 rated helmet he uses for go-karting. IMO, HJCs are fairly reasonable as far as pricing compared to Shoei or Arai. Unless you're buying a $1000 helmet, there's no real difference between a $500 Shoei and a $130 HJC helmet as far as safety goes.

yea it sucks that helmet sizes are standardized across the board. My Bell Sport 3 medium fits me perfectly but an Arai or HJC medium didn't fit me very well. Getting an Snell rated helmet is pretty expensive (probably $250 cheapest brand new) but they're worth it.
