rs scca road racing

i want to start road racing. i have a 99 rs and was wondering if anyone has any info on that. ie... what class it would best fall in, how to get in touch with someone. you know all that stuff. thanks tim oh yeah i live in new york state

SCCA doesn't allow AWD vehicles in SCCA Club Racing (right now).

It looks like this is going to change soon though, because they are thinking about classifying the Audi TT and the WRX in Touring for 2004, but I haven't followed that too closely.

I would recommend that, if you are an SCCA member, you request the Board of Directors via a letter or email that they consider changing that "no AWD" rule due to the new popularity of AWD cars in the market and that they include the RS in SSB and/or IT. Ask your division's director for input as to what kind of info you should include in your letter to justify what you want.

At Watkins Glen recently I was told by an owner/driver of a Vette that WRXs and TTs might be in Touring: with Vettes, Camaros, RX7s, etc? Please!

Actually, they are going to Touring 2, which is Mustangs and Camaro's, mostly. If the 2.5 RS is ever categorized, it will be such dog. They are going to have so many limitations put on it, due to the AWD, that it is most likely going to heavy and underpowered. One thing you can do, is check with your local region to see if they run ITE, SPO, SPU. You might be able to get the 2.5rs categorized in one of those (most likely ITE). Otherwise, we only get AutoX and RallyX for now.
