I'd say go for a STi up pipe or a gutted stock one. Same performance gains as any aftermarket one. You'll have less of a problem at smog time and its harder to tell its been modified. That cat is only there to lower emissions on a cold start so if you have your stock downpipe on and the cats are heated up, you should* pass visual and emissions.

I'f you're doing it yourself for the first time, it could take 3-6 hours. Thats just replacing the pipe. If you decide to fix the weld or gut the stock pipe, it will take longer and your car will be out of use for some time.

 

i have an sti, so should i jus get another sti uppipe or should i just buy an inexpensive aftermarket uppipe ? i cant afford to be w/o my car for more than a day.

Looks like the heatshield started to corrode or something. Just go with a catless pipe, you'll be happier.

It doesn't appear that you have your turbo heatshield on either. You should modify the heatshield to fit the aftermarket downpipe and reduce heatsoak on the intercooler.

 

Ok, in that case, is your car still under warranty? I'd say throw the stock downpipe on and take it in if it is. Thats not something that was caused by modification or abuse.

 

yeah thats from my camera. i had to resize it down from 2048x1536. i bought the sony ericsson cybershot k800 3mp camera phone.

man, i did not install the downpipe myself so its going to be a big hassle.

 

If you have any sort of mechanical ability it's a piece of cake to install a downpipe.

 

i have the mechanical ability of a monkey with a hammer.
