Brisk Gravel Rally Opportunity in NW
Night On Bald Mountain, brisk gravel TSD event
October 2nd, 2004
Cle Elem, Washington USA (southeast of Seattle)
Night on Bald Mountain is ORCA's premier Gravel Monte Carlo event.
It begins before dark and ends in the late evening of the first Saturday of October.
Comprised mostly of gravel roads, NoBM is a brisk gravel TSD Rally. Unpaved forest roads will comprise 95% of the regularities. Road surfaces will vary in roughness but can easily be traversed by any street legal car with reasonable ground clearance. Low-profile street tires are not recommended.
Instructions will be provided in ORCA's alpine format. There are no course-following traps other than the ones you design for yourself.
While this event is suitable for teams with only a few rallies under their belt, there is NO NOVICE CLASS. Competitors who have not participated in a previous gravel TSD should contact us.
This years starting (and ending) location is:
Sunset Cafe
318 E 1st Street,
Cle Elum, WA 98922.
Phone: 509-674-2241.
Take exit 84 off of I-90.
Then the restaurant is 1.6 miles down 1st St. on the right, cross street is Bullitt Ave.
Registration opens at 3:00pm with First Car Out at 4:00pm.
Entry fee is $40USD with a $5 discount for NWRC club members. Entry fee is paid at registration.
Electronic Pre-Registration is highly recommended, as the field is currently limited to the first 30 cars based on pre-registration, see link below for ELECTRONIC REGISTRATION.
The event is approximately 6 hours long and 170 miles. A gas stop will be provided. It will be CHALLENGING and extremely fun.
Classes:
SOP - class is restricted to the use of any type and number of timepieces, pencils, pens and paper or maps. Additional odometers may be used as long as they may function only as an odometer. Use of navigational aids is prohibited.
EQUIPED - Any calculating devices as long as they are not connected to an odometer.
UNLIMITED - No limit is placed on the equipment permissible for use.
Recommended equipment: clipboard, pens/pencils, flashlight or map light for reading NRI's, good spare tire, one reflective triangles, a coat and snacks.

This is among the best TSD rallies being run in the states, if you are anywhere near you should enter, you will have a very fun time.
Sadly I must work this weekend, so I'm stuck here in CA.

Scores will be corrected
It appears to be a scoring error (time dec not applied to all stages). If you take into account the 270 sec time allowance for the 3 checkpoints in question, then our total score is a 22 which is not far off the winning score of 18...
We will see if my inquiry is upheld.
That's what I get for leaving early...

We will see if my inquiry is upheld. Greg is researching it tonight.

Scores
But none-the-less, looks like Uncle Satch Carlson and Russ Kruashaar won in UNLIMITED with a whooping 18 and Wiley and Horst took second with a darn good 20 points.
The winning EQUIPPED cars were in the 60-80 point range and the best SOP cars around 100-140 range.
