I have a d40 and it came with a 18-55mm lense and a 55-200mm Lense and if you look at my "a day with the clown and the pig" thread, you'll see the quality. I got the body used for 200 with less than 2000 clicks and the lenses weren't too much either. It's a great amateur camera.

I use Elinchrom.
Screw the cyber commander! I'm not in a gigantic studio, I can walk to the damn unit and adjust the power myself. CyberSync is all I need.

Yeah screw the remote system!!!!

The best system I have ever had was still the voice activated one

If you dont need fancy stuff you should look into Youngnuo. I have tried them out and they work well.

That's exactly why my B800's are different colors.

By the way, if a mod ever ventures into this thread, maybe they should move our BS inti the general photography thread.

I used AB a few times. I just didnt get the slider, too ambiguous/old shcool for me. To go one stop less 1/8 to 1/16 or two to 1/32 is too hard for me.

I am sure a mod will come along and fix it.

from what i have read which i am not 100% sure about but some bodies do have an auto focusing motor and some have them in the lenses. like the d90 has the AF in the body and the d40 has the AF in the lens... and by having the AF in the body your lens selection is much better and the lenses are cheaper.

correct me if i am incorrect!!!
Ya that's basically what I was talking about. It's been awhile since I dove into cameras. Here is a Nikon that seems pretty reasonable and pretty close to price point for the OP.

Just my .02. I'm definitely no expert so take the advise with a grain of salt.

What is this, BAIC?

I hope the OP has been able to weed out the info from our BS. Basically, equipment is equipment. Going with any of the major 3 brands you'll be fine. Just get something mid-range, and keep your ee out for rebates and used equipment (although I'm not fond of buying used lenses without handling them first).

It is not super high end stuff so I would not be worried. Ask StealthMODE where he got his.

yes i have been able to weed out all of the other BS... however Ecks769 brought up the Nikon D3100... can someone look at the specs for me and let me know if it is a camera that is a mid range or low range and if its upgradeable to worthiness that i wont outgrow it too fast?
