Well, for my WRX (I don't know what car you have) at 30k you need to...
inspect drive belts (easy)
inspect Camshaft belt (I don't think its needed)
replace oil and filter (easy)
replace engine coolant (easy)
replace fuel filter (easy)
replace air filter (easy)
replace spark plugs (PITA)
inspect tranny and rear diff fluid (I would change it and its easy)
replace brake fluid (easy)
inspect brakes (easy)
readjust parking brake (easy)
inspect clutch operation (doesn't really do anything)
inspect steering and suspension (doesn't really do anything)
rotate tires (easy)
So you see, most of the stuff is pretty easy to do yourself. If you take it to a shop they will charge you around 300-400 to do this.

You will need 5 quarts of oil, a filter, 1 gallon of antifreeze and 1 gallon of distilled water, I forget how many quarts of tranny fluid but its around 4 and 1 quart for the rear differential, 1 fuel filter. The belts don't really need to be changed or inspected until 60k imo. but just look for cracks on them.
But if you really don't want to do it then don't. You are keeping the economy alive.
