Tired of the gold Brembos (56k die in a fire because I am a picture *****)
I am going for the STi with a LOT less attention look. Last piece will come Weds when I swap my STi scoop for a WRX one. It is a sleeper if you will. It was time for my 30k (28,700) service so I was going to bleed my brakes anyways so I took them off and decided to paint them.
Ok started with the huge job of cleaning the brakes good enough to paint. It took me 4 cans of brake cleaner and about 1 hr per brake to fully clean (OUCH!) Def a bigger job than I thought.
Hmmm something's missing..............

In this picture in the red are the bleeder valves (one side not shown) and the bolt that holds the brake lines on. I tried to source bolts for all holes but the first place I went only had 5 (needed 12 total) so I went with little plastic round pieces that fit inside the hole. This was a bad idea, I should have got the right bolts as every time I turned the brakes while painting a little left over brake fluid came out and ruined my piant!@@@@!!!!!. So I had to clean it off and repaint. This happened until the very end and cause me to lose my nice finish and had to make it a flat black for now. Live and learn So if you are going to do this tape off all the bleeder valves and brake line bolts and re insert them or find bolts to plug the holes while you paint.

So fresh and so clean!

Once cleaned I cleaned them again one last time before paint. I also taped off all the pistons with normal masking tape.
Then first I painted the brakes silver with a caliper specific paint (VHT)
I did this so if it chipped if wouldn't be ugly gold and also before I had to use the flat black touch up the had a nice deep black with the silver backing that made them POP.

(the green tint is from a light in my garage)
Then I changed to VHT Satin Black

Here they are finished and baked! (baked calipers for 3 hrs on 175)

Here they are on the car.

REAR

And the rims re-installed

Emmm SO STEALTHY!!!! muhahahaha.
And my '05 STi as it stands (small scoop coming VERY soon!)

You rattle canned them black over 'powder coating'? They will be chipping and looking pretty tired awfully quick I would think ~

Yup, I sure didn't want to expose my brakes to the heat of normal powder coating (300 at least). Nore did I want to spend the money on it and the downtime of sending them off to a powder coating.
IDK about chipping as only time will tell, but my gold was chipped really bad so either way they will chip. I did use 900 degree paint and baked them for 3hrs to cure the finish. When installing my brake pads after painting I was hammering the the pins that hold the pads into place and hit the caliper a few times on accident, it didn't chip them surprisingly but this is the only test they have gone through so far. I can post pics in a few months of how they look. I picked up some brush on caliper paint for touch ups as I am expecting chips!

Hahaha you got meh! I got the license plate before I went for the sleeper look
Anyone wanna buy the plate??? Hahaha j/k. I want the black interior, but if I do it it will be black STi seats with some s203 interior bits. I need to concentrate on getting my green in and down to Hayward to be tuned again.
