The story of my 2.5 RS...

My Story
In the summer of 2007, I was getting tired of my rather lame looking 1988 Mazda MX-6 GT, so I began looking for something new. A couple of my friends had RS's and I loved how they looked and handled. Not to mention I was really after an AWD platform. After a few months of looking, one buddy decided to let his go, and I jumped on it. Here's a few pics from the day I bought it.

I was pretty happy with my new subie! I bought it lightly modded.

Mods Before Me
KYB AGX struts
Prodrive P1 springs
sti tophats
obx axleback
misc painted pieces

Having already been bitten by the mod bug with my mazda, I had to do something to the subie asap. I didn't have a whole lot of money at the time and wanted to make it look more aggressive, so I painted the wheels bronze.

After that came a bit of maintenance. Had a cam seal replaced and timing belt done, then replaced the coilpack and plug wires. Then a rather unfortunate incident put my baby in the body shop. A coworker went to fast in the icy parking lot at work and drilled my passenger side.

After a while in the shop, it came out lookin nice and fresh, and I added some wrx wheels with blizzaks for the winter, jdm tails, and clear ebay corners.

I added a borla header, and extended my axleback to a catback, then added a custom test pipe. She was sounding pretty mean.

I had always wanted a lip and after saving for a bit, finally decided to treat myself to a version 5/6 replica from ebay. I got sick of the clear corners and sold them, and put my stock modded corners back on. I also decided that now would be a good time to finally mod the suspension further, so I added front and rear strut bars and a 20mm sti rear sway with perrin endlinks. Also, somewhere along the line I added a Kartboy short shifter and managed to find an OEM carbon fiber dash trim kit for 30 bucks!

I took a long time to finally finish my DIY grille project but I think it turned out pretty nice. Here's a shot from when SRT USA was going through town. We saw the trailer and had a local subie meet going in like fifteen minutes lol.

Well, since I had a lip I figured I might as well get some spats. Luckily I had some parts that another member on here was looking for so we were able to make a trade.

The car then went through a little bit of a sinister phase for a bit. I borrowed some totally blacked out inside corners from a friend and it really darkened up the look.

Well, during the sinister phase, she developed a pretty sinister problem. Rod knock. It wasn't terrible and didn't happen all the time, but it was enough to force me to change up some plans. I began planning a swap. Knowing I wasn't going to be using my NA mods anymore, I sold my test pipe and traded my borla headers plus a little cash for some wheels. I also snatched up some jdm corners for really cheap. The wheels and corners really brightened up the look.

I finally found an engine in seattle and picked it up. I originally planned on swapping the car myself, but with the beginning of college looming, time was going to be a huge issue. I lucked out and found a local shop called Zip Auto, that agreed to tackle my project. Here are a few pics of the process.

After a few long months of struggling to locate elusive parts, and the shop and myself going through quite the learning experience, the car finally runs. I'm finally boosting!
