miles for breaking in EJ20T motor

Car Info: 2004 WRX
the salesman told me that the factory oil should be left in till 3000 miles. like you're supposed to change the oil every 3 months or 3000 miles. so with the WRX you're supposed to leave the original oil in for 3000 miles even if it's past 3 months.
after that you can switch to synthetic etc.
