Impreza and WRX research
Hi all you Subaru lovers. I'm a student at the University of Minnesota and my advertising class is creating a new campaign for the Subaru Impreza. I don't own a Subaru but know that there is a huge loyal Subaru community and I was hoping to get your input on a few things.
1) How did you first hear about Subaru and what made you want one?
2) Was there something this car brand offered that others didn't?
3) Have you owned a Subaru previous to your latest Subaru purchase?
4) If you own an Impreza, how was this model different to you than the other Subaru models?
5) What other cars (make and model) did you look at before buying your Subaru?
Thanks, I'd really appreciate your opinions and responses.

1) How did you first hear about Subaru and what made you want one?
I was looking all over for some sort of fun car when i turned 16, I couldnt quite find exactly what I wanted. I was looking on ebay and I saw a stock 98 impreza rs with gold rims and I knew I needed to buy one of those at that moment.
2) Was there something this car brand offered that others didn't?
The AWD was definetely a big plus to the car. Doing some research on the car i found that they were quick and nimble and for the money, they were easily better than most cars in their price range (plus they fit in my price range, the rs's)
3) Have you owned a Subaru previous to your latest Subaru purchase?
I had a ford ranger :/
4) If you own an Impreza, how was this model different to you than the other Subaru models?
The gc is by far the coolest model imo, It is sort of rare and especially since they didnt bring any turbo gc's over to the states, the appeal of a swapped one is awesome
5) What other cars (make and model) did you look at before buying your Subaru?
I almost bought a Nissan Xterra, but it was too expensive. I was looking into pontiac firebirds for a little while because I always loved those cars, but for the most part I didnt really focus on a specific model of car

Car Info: 2003 PSM WRX, 80 Brat ready for Chevy 350 Swap.
1) there was a Subaru dealership in town(i didn't buy from them) and i needed an AWD car for snowy seasons.. so i bought a fast AWD car lol
2)this car offered AWD, Turbo, and reliability, all other AWD turbo cars, ie: EVO, aren't as reliable as Subaru's
3) this is my first Subaru, but this is my third car.
4)I own an Impreza WRX, its sporty!
5)i looked at Misubishi's(EVO, GSX eclipse, 3000gt vr4), and then non awd cars such as honda',srt-4's, and then older muscles, but i realized i needed a relaible fast car. no other car besides the Subaru wrx provided everything i wanted and needed.

Cool project
1) My best friend told me he wanted a Subaru Impreza WRX STi when we were seniors in high school. We were always playing with modded RC Cars in physics class and we became obsessed with the STi...
2) The STi is a Super Car killer for $35k. I've punked Vipers, Aston Martin DB9s, Porsche Carrera S and other $70k-$100k+ cars in my Subarus.
And Subarus do this:
"It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru" There's just something about Subaru/the Impreza that brings unity. Most guys with the same cars looked at each other as competition. Subaru owners look at each others as brothers Everyone with a Subaru is always down to help someone, especially if they have a Subaru too lol.
3) I bought a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS in July '06, sold it and bought a 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX in January of '07, sold that in January of '08 and bought a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi, then sold that and bought an '08 Subaru Impreza WRX STi in July.
4) The first one I owned was older, a classic Subaru "rally car" and the first model to come stateside with the Impreza heritage. It was non-turbo and only a 5 speed with like 135 wheel horsepower.
The second one I owned was just a WRX, not an STi. So it was newer than the '01, and was turboed.
The third one I owned was an STi. I was just waiting to afford one and as soon as I could, I sold what I had and moved up. The STi has a bigger turbo and is a 6 Speed with lots of advantages over the WRX.
The fourth and current Impreza is the newest and has been redesigned. New suspension, chasis, turbo, and is a 5 door hatchback instead of a sedan.
5) A 2000 Chevy Silverado 5 Speed Standard Cab

Car Info: 2006 AW STi
1) How did you first hear about Subaru and what made you want one?
Heard about Subaru from a friend that purchased the first 02 wrx right when they were available in the US. The aggressive style, boxer engine, turbo and awd system made me want one.
2) Was there something this car brand offered that others didn't?
Its simple yet has an aggressive design. A sedan with turbo that offered great performance but also great quality. All wheel drive system was a huge plus as well for me.
3) Have you owned a Subaru previous to your latest Subaru purchase?
No.
4) If you own an Impreza, how was this model different to you than the other Subaru models?
Impreza STi was Subaru of America's only offering of full race spec model. If other STi models were available it would have been a different story.
5) What other cars (make and model) did you look at before buying your Subaru?
Mitsubishi Evo, BMW 330, Honda s2000. Nothing really compared to the Subaru in all around performance, handling, design, in its price range.

1 All forms of media (mags, TV shows, websites, even newspaper reviews) because by the time I got around to even thinking about buying one, the automotive world had nearly been turned upside down by the WRX/STi/Evo revolution in the U.S.
2 AWD, turbo, stick, brand security and history, good pricing, reliability, strong community with lots of members around the world and a constantly growing increasing number of people who know how to work on/repair/tune these cars.
3 Negative.
4 (I'm guessing you meant something like "If you own an Impreza now and you owned other Subarus prior, how is the Impreza different?") But no.
5 E39 BMW M5, C5 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Audi S4, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8/9 (stop laughing, dammit, I'm serious )
Hope this helps. Just out of curiousity, is this campaign your class is creating going to be televised or in print form? You might have your work cut out for you, because several of the most recent ads did a pretty decent job in capturing the lifestyle/ownership/general feeling of most Subaru owners, in my opinion.

We haven't decided what type of media to use yet...probably print since that seems to be the skill set we are familiar with (I don't think too many people in my group had worked with video/editing before) I loved the "german-envy" print ads but am particularly drawn with the current "love" campaign - we'll see what kinds of stuff we can come up with over the next month or two. Thanks for you input! -Megan
