cobb's off the shelf ap maps can run very lean (even with the ca91 stage 2 maps). trust me, you'll want a protune once you get your turbo installed.

personally my car was running HORRIBLY with the ots cobb ca91 maps. once it was tuned at gst it ran smooth like butter, and I gained ~30whp compared to the ots map. .

Yeah, the OTS maps do suck.. that's what I'm running now.. but I've got a few more parts to install before my protune next month.

cobb maps are only enough to get you to the tuners. TD05's.. aren't those turbo's for audi's?

my protune at GST was ~$240 (i think. it's been a while and i don't have the receipt :P) for 2 hours of tuning. it was a stage 2 91 octange map. If I were you, I would just shoot a pm to gst, dbtuned, and\or eq to see what works before for you as far as pricing and location. good luck!

must i have an AP to get a protune?

if not, why do people spend 800 on cobb ap's? that is the price of 3-4 protunes.

yessir, my STi's been on a cracked turbo for the last 12k miles hitting 20psi. havent really had any issues yet.

as far as the protune, if you looking for a more cost effective tuning solution, check out ecu flash and open ecu. I know there are a few tuners on the boards that use this software to tune and all you need to buy is a tatrix cable $70. or if you want a FULL custom tune, i believe Ed from EQ tuning is providing this service as well.

well you dont need a AP to get tuned.... but you do need some type of tuning program.... ekutec, AP ,hydra... whatever you want... as for doing a VF39, i wuldnt do it. you ask why? well i have a 04' sti and wen i went to tune my car i at gst i found the turbo was cracked.... so i go and get the crack welded shut, worked for a while but only served as a bandaide, over time it cracked open again. if you dont wanna go to big jus get a VF 43 or a different sti turbo other then the 39. the major problem you will find with a cracked 39 is boost taper at the top end. everything feels good til you get to about 65+ MPH.
