your going to need alot more then just the motor/trans, since you have a 97 you should check this out for everything your going to need, and its gonna be alot of work/money but swapped GCs are awesome so go for it

Oh, and I doubt any shop will be able to help find parts. Once you have all the parts, they would be happy to do the work for you. Finding the parts is all you.

Really, unless an engine and trans fall out of the sky in your lap or something, your only real path here is to seek out and purchase either a totaled STi or one of those engine/tranny combos off eBay (generally a bad idea). I searched for this very setup w/ the help of a friend sending me cars for sale and such, but since I had to inspect the car which was often a few hundred miles from me, and then pay in full for the car without knowing what it would cost (could be $9k, could be $14k, you never know till it sells) I just sort of gave up and stopped looking. Couldn't figure out how to a) inspect a car that's a long ways away b) potentially wait a week or two for the auction to close and then c) pay for and retrieve car, d) have car shipped to wherever I can e) dismantle the car and then f) handle the wreckage. Only thing I could come up w/ was gathering around $10k cash and taking some time off to find a donor car which then polarized the whole thing and made me wonder WTF I was doing.

Yeah, it's a lot of work before it's a lot of work. If it were easy there would be a lot of swapped Subies around. I don't mind the wrenching work but tell ya the truth at this stage (and all I'm missing now is a turbo, up-pipe, down-pipe and some misc hardware) if someone wanted to buy me out I would do it. Would be cool to have the car done, but.. I guess I don't care about it anymore. Maybe I should have waited to buy a brand new car till the Suby was done... Hahahaha... I still have a few more parts to buy and my tranny is showing up this weekend (hey-oh!) but I have lost interest and am buying these parts from people because I said I would, not because I want them.
