I don't have a lot of money to spend on installation. My uncle's shop is already charging me $325 for an estimated 6.5 hours to install. And that's already "discounted" and I don't want to argue with him that it takes less than that with a lift.
6.5 hours with a lift? thats BS, doesn't sound like a shop I'd trust to know what they are doing (no offense)

downpipe and cbe are pretty easy. i'd say you'd be okay getting a joe schmoe to do those. but i'd really suggest getting a shop or an experienced DIY'er for the up-pipe or you'll risk getting leaks, broken studs, or worse.

again, better to pay now than (more) later
yeah. I'd definitely be willing to pay a little more so that if something is done wrong you have a shop you can go back to and say "I paid you to install this correctly which it seems you failed to do."

It's worth it to do these yourself if you desire to know or learn about your car. And if you enjoy working on your car, it's definitely yes.

If you are doing these yourself only to save money, it may not be worth it at all - because you will probably going to find more tools that you need to buy in the middle of the install and bolts thats need be cut....... such things will demand more from your budget.

In the other hand, difficulty of installing uppipe is way over-rated. It's not that hard if you take your time researching about it prior to install. I took my time with mine. No leaks at all.

I also think <300 for all those install at GST is really a good deal.

LMK if you want me to drop by to answer some questions during your install day - of course that is if you are going to do yourself.

Well, with this WTB thread. I don't plan on just letting *name here* install the UP/DP all on his own. I very much want to learn how to install it myself, especially since I have friends that are looking to install aftermarket CBE. And would be more than happy to lend a helping hand. It's just that I'd prefer an extra set of EXPERIENCED hands to be helping me do this job, especially since this is a car that I want to be taking me from point A to point B safely and securely.

Did my DP last week, took a couple hours because I like to work slow the first time out. And I had to do a little surgery on one DP nut. But honestly its not that hard, I can get you the directions from Suby on the DP/UP if you want just PM me.

hey, ive gone from stock tbe, to borla hush cbe, to helix DP, back to stock DP, to greddy evo2 cbe, back to stock tbe on my sti. and on my 02 wagon, ive gone stock tbe to helix cbe.

I can do the tbe install with my eyes closed. I can help you out, but im in san leandro. my driveway at my house is spacious and i have tools. I would take ppls advice and go with a pro for the UP tho. But as far as the TBE goes, I may be the joe-schmoe you're looking for. $60 and a 6-pack of beer and i'll help you out. also, ill make sure you watch every step so you know the process of swapping it out and also where the potential difficulties lie.

lemme know.

Uppipe is not that hard. I felt taking out the turbo was the easiest way to do it. Plus, you get to learn how to swap a turbo, which might come in handy later on down the road. Download some instructions, borrow some tools, and just go for it. What's the worst that could happen? You might strip a nut, break a stud, etc. but it's not like your car is going to blow up.
