I'd be spending around $1500-1700 through Mert to get the block up to par with where I'd feel comfortable selling it to someone. Mert is, after all, the man. He would completely tear it down, inspect it, bore, re-hone to 99.75, measure for clearance, and I'd pick up a new set of 99.75 pistons, along with having him inspect and re-install everything with a clean bill of health.

If I pay for all of that work, and he can help me sell the pistons, I'm still out around $1,400, so I'd need to ask at least $3,300 for it, all build and assembled, with paperwork from RBMS.

If someone wants to take it off my hands in its current condition, then obviously my price would be quite a bit lower than the price I paid for it, which was $2,600. A price I paid when I picked it up just a few months ago. Of course, I'd be happy to have Mert take a quick look at it and have him say it's in good condition for another bore-hone job.

If you guys want to track me down, PM me your telephone number or email address. Easier to communicate through those means.

Matt T., Jamison, and about 25 other people can vouch for me on here.

I will vouch for you! How many people do you know that would be honest enough about parts that would make them lose money?

Extremely honest seller, and very reliable!

I'd pull those pistons out. Sell them. Sell this block sans pistons for whatever you think you can get for it.

Sucks man.

Sucks, indeed. And I'm stuck with a lump, currently.

I may just part out the pieces. We'll see.

when you think of it, 900 for forged internals and built by a pro isnt too bad at all. given a factory shortblock replacement runs about 1800.00 if i had the cash, id be all over this!

Remember my offer. It's probably what you will get if you part out the pieces. Hard to get retail prices without the box or it's been open and contaminated by human hands.

I haven't forgotten your offer, but it's just too low, man.

You sent me your math. I sent you mine. If I'm willing to be patient, I stand to make $600+ more doing things my way. And I can be patient.

How much would it cost to instal the pistons into the shortblock. Thanks.

My offer of $1000 may seem low for someone who just spent $2600 on the same thing but if you parted it out, it's pretty much how much you will get back.

$330 rods - used $250
$550 pistons - used $400
$100 bearing - used $0.00

bad EJ257 short block - $350

But if you're planing to threw more money on top and hope to get more out, that's your money.

I'm just looking for a deal!

From the picture it looks like very very light scoring. Its probably just going to burn a little extra oil right?

PM me what you're wanting for it and what your highest offer is. I might have to throw my hat into this.

You're asking the wrong guy for that. In fact, I'm not too sure what you're asking. Are you asking what my pistons would cost? I'm not too sure what it would cost to install just the pistons. You may want to call LIC, or RBMS about that.

The cost of a disassemble, bore and hone, new pistons, and reassemble is about $1,600 at RBMS. That's about all I know. Plus, Mert said he'd help me (or whoever) sell the 99.5mm pistons.

I understand, man. And parting it out, maybe. But assembled, with everything checked out, honed, re-bored, new pistons, etc. it's worth more than you're offering to me.

Plus, not everyone can assemble their own block like you can. So while you can save money, others can't. Like, say, myself, for instance. You being able to do this yourself doesn't do me any good. But I'm glad it saves you money.

Good luck with your search.

The guy who almost bought the block said he could feel them with his fingernail. Maybe my fingers aren't sensitive enough, but I can't feel the scoring.

The fact is, I don't feel good about selling the block in this condition to someone, unless it's heavily discounted, because it's not in a condition I would put into my own car.

Unlike others, I'd like to think I'm an honest seller.

As for burning oil, I just don't know. But I'll PM you anyway, man!

Won't the original motor builder help put some new pistons in and fix this? Obviously he has no obligation but it seems that the scoring was there when you bought it.

Buyer beware, I suppose. I should have looked more closely and been more careful/less trusting.
