Possibly buying an 02-05 wrx
Possibly buying an 02-05 wrx
I was wondering if there is anything in particular I should be looking for (problems) when shopping for one of these? I'm trying to find one with under 40,000 miles. I'm not familar with their warranty period or anything. I'm selling my 2004 12in lifted Nissan Titan because I can't take the gas anymore (8 mpg) and I know these cars get better than that even with performance mods. Also I like the fact that they are all wheel drive because I do a lot of driving up to the local mountains for snowboarding and may be moving to Colorado and I'm tired of the chains thing. Thanks.

I've known a few WRX owners that have picked up their car and suddenly ran into tranny problems. The 2002 models are prone to clutch shudder, esp. when the car is cold.
The '02 was the new introduction. It took them a while to iron out the wrinkles - some were recalls, others were just TSBs.
The '02s aren't horrible (mine just went through 111111 miles
), but I think an 03-05 would probably be a better bet.

+1 for the 03-05 idea. I have a 02 personally and the tranny bugs me. I'm not running a whole lot of power or anything but the new models are just better IMO. I would say get a 04 or 05 if you like the peanut eye or go 03 if your a fan of the bugeye. What is kinda nice is the engine is the same so in terms of power etc. 03-05 won't really matter.
