exhaust legality

I got my 03rex inspected and its got 8000 miles on it. took it to a local sticker giver so i didnt have to wait around for subaru techs. They told me its a new law that my car has to be stock and soon as he looked at my Apexi N1 exhaust he said i failed inspection and had to pay the fee pass or fail. i was extremely pissed to hear this. i see people with exhausts all over the place and they all have stickers. does this mean my warranty is voided too? the only thing i'm worried about is the clutch warranty. I'm waitin to see how it performs in winter and i havent had any shudder but i grinded the gears a couple times when i thought i was shifting perfectly. i hope my trani isnt goin to hell, but how could it with just 8k miles. I paid the gentlemen alil extra and he gave me a sticker but i care more about the condition of my clutch and gears. The car is 5monthes old. do i need to just work in the gears more so its not so stiff

this is a new law they are thinking about, i dont think it has gone into effect yet. it wont void your warranty.

mysubaruimp... you are wrong.

It's been illegal, as it's written in the books in NH to replace the stock exhaust... ALWAYS.

The new law coming about is that it must be no louder than 94 or 95 dB. Still in committee. (This was from the opther club, very recently.)

My advice? Find a new garage.

And about voiding of the warranty, you no longer have an exhaust warranty on your car. (And some dealers will try and say your exhaust was the problem that your engine died, if it ewver does. The best thing to do is call and talk with some people at the dealerships to find out if they're mod friendly).

kc is right. the law has been in effect for a while, i guess it was the decibal law i was thinking about. it is very often overlooked during any inspection, last inspection i got was at a subaru dealership and they passed it with the borla cat-back and headers, before that i had a jetta with an aftermarket exhaust, although it looked stock and sounded mostly stock at idle so they might not have noticed that.

and for the exhaust warranty, i was just assuming that it was a no brainer about the aftermarket exhaust being covered under warranty. and the dealer will most likely try to screw you out of warranty if you have the exhaust. my advice is just to go in knowing what you are talking about, and dont back down, no matter what bull they tell you, it takes a lot more work, but you get to have aftermarket parts
