Moving from FL to Chicago ... Need Advice

I'm moving in about 6 weeks to Chicago so I need advice on keeping the car well maintained in cold weather. I've always lived in Florida and I've never driven in snow so I have no idea what I need or how to prepare for winter. Any help is appreciated.

I've never done anything special with my car, tried to get a good coat of wax on as late into early winter as I could. I take my summer tires off. . .Standard stuff you should check frequently.

Are you actually going to be in chicago? May want to get new bumpers :x

I don't know where the east village is. . . but as far as mod friendly dealers go. I wouldn't count on them.

Crap. Well, am I retarded for taking my car into the city? Leaving it in FL is an option, but I don't think I could go without driving it for that long. My apartment is somewhere near the Blue Line and Grand Avenue. Hope that helps. Thanks for the replies.

Does the state of Illinois do smog checks? visual inspections?

Smog Check

depends on the county. Lake County does for sure (that's where I am) and Cook county does as well. Further away from Chicago I don't think they do.

I've still got Wisconsin plates and I will have them until they expire in Feb. 05'. I wanted to get the equal length headers with no cat, from Cobb tuning, but now I'm going to have to get a high flow cat. Sucks but that's the crap you have to deal with around here.
