Moving to MD
Moving to MD
I'm be down in the March-April time frame and will be commuting to Columbia. As I don't make a terrible amount of money I'm looking for some suggestions on good places to live with affordable rent (~700-800 single, ~1200 double), things to do, public transport to DC, and decent protection for my car. So far I've heard of Rockville and College Park but those are a bit of a commute. Thanks!

Hey there. I've been living in College Park now for about 9 years (since I started at UMD in 1995) and of all the places around I think it's one of the better places to live. If you're going to be working in Columbia why not find a place up there? It's a nice place to live. The closer to the city you get generally the less impressive living situations get.
If you still want to be in the CP/Rockville/Silver Spring area and are going to be commuting to Columbia, there is an apartment complex called The Berkshire Towers that is at the intersection of Rt. 29 and New Hampshire ave. You could take Rt. 29 north all the way into Columbia or it's pretty close to the beltway. They're rates are right around what you want to spend.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
