Hey. I am actually only calling Davis meets. It was mainly for UCD and Davis people to get together informally and hang. Maybe down the line, I'll call a bigger and more formal meet, but for now, I think this will work. As for a new Sacramento area meet, I couldn't really say. I'd be interested in a meet, but yeah, I don't really have the authority to call those meets.

You're cool. However, as soon as people started trying to get "all-import" meets going, the **** we're complaining about started happening. The word got out because you *didn't* respect the group and the history in the first place.
You realize the norcal street, norcalimports street racing BS is *exactly* what we're complaining about, right?
Look, it's not personal, but you have to understand that this has never been an "import meet" or a "show", it's friends who met through this site hanging out. Some don't own Subarus anymore. Some have 3 of them. Some don't make it out every week. But if you don't understand that we laugh at the ricer ****, and don't want all that crap as a part of the meet we created as a safe haven, then ther'es no way I'm going to be able to explain it.

I stopped going as much because my life has changed considerably in the three years since I started what became the weekely Natomas meets. I just don't have time between work and school and being married. That's true with most of the guys who originally went, and/or they live out of the area now. Now I don't go anymore because of all the other groups there, the racing, etc.

taking the soap box...
My only problem with what's being said here is that it seems to be ignoring the fact that all the crap that's being complained about by the old school crew is due largely to the fact that most of them stopped showing up to the meets regularly. i do understand that almost everyone doesn't have the time in their personal lives anymore to keep attending meets, and that's cool. but honestly, if everyone stops showing up to the meets, i think it's understandable that a new group is going to come in and take over the now-vacant spot.
are the meets dead? i dunno, you tell me. the past 6 or 7 months, like 90% of the meets has been just me, sean, hodge, and jack. and that's it, just the four of us (the Elk Grove meets have mostly been just me and Hodge!), and jack can't even stay out that late so it ends up being three of us most of the time. again, i know people live far away (Cale, Kevin, and even you Aaron, geez you guys drive a long *** way to get to those meets!), and have other things to do, so i'm not trying to call people out on that. but since none of the old school crew shows up regularly, the four people that do show up regularly are going to start getting bored, and either we'll stop coming too, or we'll start inviting other people just so that there's someone else there.
now granted, you're right, we probably shouldn't be inviting other imports out there just because we're lonely. it's a subaru meet, so it should stay subarus for the most part. other clubs that want to come in, okay that's fine, but stay in a different part of the lot and don't come around causing trouble where the i-club meet is. i-club is anti street racing, and anti-jack-***-driving, so anyone who wants to do that kind of thing, please stay away.
but again, it's just the four of us out there every night. in the past 6 months, how many really big meets have there been? 3? maybe 4? i've actually been considering just showing up to the meets at 7:30 because that's when the DSM crowd shows up, and sitting there by myself (possibly with up to three other people) in the parking lot gets kind of irritating (good thing there's a Borders right there!). going out to eat every night gets expensive anyway, so staying home for that extra hour and a half might actually be beneficial.
i'm not saying i actually am going to do that, but everytime i go to a three man meet, i think about that more and more. you guys all make good points, i agree with just about everything that's been said. but if you guys want the spot back, and don't want the other crowds to show up in force, then you guys have to take the spot back. you don't want to be associated with that other crowd? fine, don't associate with them. but the fact of the matter is that there really isn't anything you can do to keep people from showing up. if those guys in the Mazda3s want to show up and eat dinner on the curb while they talk about how all of their cars look exactly the same, then that's their right. if those guys in the riced out civics want to come and show off their neons to each other, then that's their right. and if that jack *** in the silver EVO wants to speed through the parking lot and cleave through a Forester, then well......he can go do that somewhere else.
all i'm saying is that staying away from the meets is only perpetuating the problem that everyone is complaining about. if you don't show, then someone else will. with as many different car enthusiasts as there are in Sac, that's pretty much a given. if you don't want it to be an "all imports" meet, then it doesn't have to be. but if the regular i-clubbers aren't going to show for whatever reason (and again, i do understand that almost everyone has a legitimate reason for not showing regularly), then i'm just glad that someone shows. i look at my car every day, some days i'd rather look at someone else's car for a change. and if that means that the i-club meets have to change because those are the only people that will come out every week, then i guess that's the way it has to be.
is that a bad thing? probably, but at least it's more than a three-man meet.

dammit, i just found out - beer + essay = not gg...
fwiw, ucdavis meets were never about how many cars showed up, it was about the people, just like the bi monthly elk grove meets (if they still happen)
people grow up, move on, and decide they do not have as much time for car club stuff like they once did.

I'd personally like to see a new person actively rally people to the meets. Since I don't go anymore, I obviously don't rally anybody to come out. Come up with some new ideas of stuff you guys can do - we used to hang out at one persons house and watch movies (usually mine), get dinner, race go-karts, play pool somewhere, etc, etc. If no one is currently coming to the meets, not changing anything and just wondering why no one comes to the meets isn't going to resolve the problem
