Yeah, I'm thinking everyone's itching to do the Skaggs Road route, but heading to Mt Tam sounds like a great trip for next time in April/May!!

Now, I've heard Skaggs turns into dirt, is this true?

Also, are there any large, not-often occupied parking lots along this route? Maybe near Sonoma Lake? Along the coast? There's gotta be something. I think there'sa pretty decent lot near Sea Ranch, south of Gualala...

Skaggs doesn't turn into dirt, but the western half is really naroow and windy, basically a one and a half lane road with no centerline.

Lake Sonoma at the eastern terminus of Skaggs has some killer picnic grounds with tons of parking, but it's $60 or $70 to reserve one of those sites. I don't remember exactly how much, but Roo and I organized a Forester/Legacy meet last year and had a BBQ there, and we had to pay for it. One site also has a volleyball net and oversized BBQ.

Alright, as long as it doesn't turn into a dirt road. Sounds a lot like the first part of Franz Valley that we took. As long as the lead car radios when there's an oncoming car, we should be good.

Speaking of radios, I'd really like to keep a better sense of communication with the group. Being the lead car, I could only get a hold of three-four cars. I know we had like 8-10 radios, so let's use 'em next time!

Let's exchange numbers at the next meet too... would have done wonders when our two groups got split up before Bear Republic.

i like the idea of the bbq up in gualala just cause it takes some time to get up there. so it will be a well earned bbq.

and roo i am down for taking that alternative route instead of through boonville. i was just trying to find a quick other route.

Maybe having the BBQ at Sonoma wouldn't be a bad idea. Figure this: we leave Santa Rosa at 11:00 or so, we would make it to Sonoma around lunch time. I wouldn't mind kicking in $5 or something...
