Hard Core Dirt drive Nov. 19 (sunday)

Hi everyone. As many of you know i have put on ALOT of drives over the past 3-4 years. Some of my latest ones have been "Off-Road Adventures". sadly however i never seem to get the same people to make more than one.

This one is very short notice, because i'm not looking for a large group. I'm really just telling my friends Ed (MethodBuilt) and Bryan (drtofu) which date i'm going. But i thought how unfair to anyone else that might be itching for some dirt/mud action.

The roads i've picked are up north a bit and will take some time to get to. In Lake, Mendocino and Glenn counties. We resently put on a TSD overnight offroad rally up there and i really want to check out some of the roads we didn't have a chance of getting to.

The day will be long and we'll hardly see a restroom, but the drivibg will be unforgettable.

I'll have to find out the weather reports to see if the roads up in the mountains are closed or not yet. Last year around this time some of them were closed do to snow fall. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If they are closed we'll be haeding up to clearlake instead.

MEETING PLACE:
Washoe House: Cotati Ca. (North of Petaluma)
corner of "Stoney Point Rd" & "Roblar Rd"

TIME:
we will be meeting at 7:45- 8:00 am and leaving at 8:15 am (SHARP!!!!)

we should be back to the bay by 5:30-7:00 pm.

let me know what you think.

Here's a list of hopefuls.

Count me as a good possibility. I'd really like to get some mudflaps figured out before I venture out again, but it may just have to wait.

Hey Rich, that's a 2002 wagon for me. I just installed my first performance mod: sedan anti-sway bar. Let's see how it affects the dirt driving.

BTW, I'm still considering what tires to get and when... I don't drive in cold weather much -- pretty much bay area so lots of rain, but it's not summer any more, and there's a chance I'll go up to Reno.

Anyone have thoughts about the Potenza RE050A Pole Positions (on sale, too) to replace the stocker RE92's I have now? I'd love if they worked just as well or better in the rain and the dirt. Any thoughts?

about the "sway bar" is it front of back? is it adjustable or not? I run a stock from sway bar and a Whiteline adjustable (24-26) fat bastard that is very stiff with STi springs and JDM adjustable struts set on 3 (of 4) so mine is pretty friggin stiff and i love it. On the dirt it allows give but it's a little more slippy.

about the "tires" i'm sorry, but a week ago i threw out my master list of tires. I did days upon days research on tire wear, tire performance, (for dirt, wet, dry, etc) read reviews, etc. made myself a list of 8 of the best rated and i just threw it out sorry. DO NOT GET THE RE92's again. They are not worth it. There is Much better out there.

go to tiretrack.com and start your research. You'll find what you need.

I would totally go, but i will be in san diego. I went exploring the mountains a little bit when i was at Thill rallyX...thats why i want to go back because i had more fun exploring than i did messing my alignment up in the rallyX!

But wont it be dusty with a long line of cars? having it a little damp would help, but your gonna have to wait a minute before everyone starts up a trail.

and what about night time? unless you clear the trail before and radio everyone its clear.

wish i could make it.

Hey Bryan, i have the 050's theyre what i did my rallycross in. I have two autocrosses on them. A few thousand miles, not counting what the previous owner put on them and they are wearing on the outside, and flaring a little on the outer-middle. if i had 3-4' camber they would be perfect cause the inside edges are still thick. They are very nice i think, what about RS-2s or 615's?

You will get at least 10K out of the 050's...id say 20K with even treadwear if you get your camber right for the roads you drive.

well, i've done these kind of drives many times and know how to run them.
we seperate the cars by about 1 minute apart and all carry radios. As the head car (me) drives i radio back about any traffic etc.. and the group relates it back to the next car and so on. Where the roads fork we stop and wait for the next car to appear. Then we leave and so on. Each car zero's thier Odo at the begin of stages and when we stop we say "Stopped at 16.4 miles" then we wait. The next car stops there as the waiting car leaves. If there is bad rut of pot hole etc. We radio back info and mileage of the caution spot and so on.
It works very well, and the only car in real danger is the first car (myself) that doesn't know what's coming up ahead.
