I found a few nice roads, but they put us pretty far southeast from Sac. Some of the drive back might be boring.
I was thinking of Salmon Falls Road to HWY49 through Coloma and Placerville to US50 to Sly Park Road to Mormon Emigrant Trail to HWY88 to HWY26 to HWY49 and back up to either part of Cedar Ravine and into Placerville or into Folsom via Latrobe. That may be too many opportunities for stragglers to get lost though.
Any other suggestions? Speak now or forever hold your piece (and no, I didn't spell that wrong!).

I think Mormon Emigrant Trail is the same situation as WWS, there might still be snow. If these last few weeks were hotter I wouldn't worry so much about it
There were huge rocks on the road last month when I was there too.
Do you have a detail map of the area around Placerville? We don't necessarily have to go through MET to get to HWY88.
I wouldn't mind skipping Salmon Falls altogether too.

I think most everyone loves Salmon Falls so I felt I had to include it in the drive somehow. As long as it is early, it should be okay.

That's fast. I can never do that time because 1) I'm scared of running into ANOTHER deer there, and 2) I usually drive there at night.
That's my excuse
I think my best time is around 12-13 minutes.

I've been giving more thought to running Ice House/Wentworth backwards and it may be a good idea. I did not realize Ice House is plowed all winter. At least if we get to Wentworth and it's got snow we will have had the fun of Ice House out and back. If we go the other way we will be very disappointed.

So, for the record: this is not a race. This is a simple drive with friends to enjoy the curves and scenery. Everyone should drive at their own pace. If you feel the cars ahead of you are driving faster than your abilities, then fall back. We will have radios for communication as well as planned stopping points. We won't leave anyone behind. If you find yourself being pushed, use the turnouts and wave the faster drivers by. Leave your egos at home. The goal is to have fun and come home in one piece and without any tickets.
We will be placing drivers who have done the road before at the front and back of the group in order to make sure no one gets lost. If anyone has Motorola walkie-talkie type radios, please bring them. I have two that I will be bringing myself. Be warned - cell phones will not work for 75% of this drive.

My house is 5 minutes from the start point so I was planning on a BBQ afterwards. Everyone is welcome to come over, including those who can't make the drive. We should be home by 1:00pm, but leave me your phone numbers if you're not going on the drive and I will call you when we get back into town.
Food will be bring your own. Same goes for beer and soda. We may have WW pick up the food at Costco and we'll all reimburse him evenly. If the weather is nice, you're welcome to use the pool, but it's only up to about 74 degrees so it might get a little nipply. I'll have an actual pool party once summer gets going (maybe in combo with another drive
)!
