Annual Sacramento Area Memorial Weekend Drive

Yes, it is that time of the year again - time for a drive on one of the many scenic roads with the Sac crew.

Last year we did Mosquito Ridge Road which was awesome. However, the CHP has been cracking down on cars and motorcycles out there and even though us Suby drivers always follow the letter of the law, I think we should drive a different route this year.

I've attached a poll of some of the ideas we have kicked around in the Weekly Sac Meet thread.

1) HWY128/121 to Berryessa/Knoxville Road into St. Helena. We could picnic at the V. Sattui winery (huge picnic grounds, huge Italian deli) or at Lake Berryessa.

Basically combining these two roads, and maybe adding in Pope Valley on the return:

The only problem with this drive is the boring I-80 to Winters portion. The nice thing is we might actually get some of the Davis folks out since we have to pass right through Davis to get to Winters. Plus Kevin could just meet us in Winters.

2) Wentworth/Icehouse. We did this one last July and it was a blast. However a month ago there was still quite a bit of snow which blocked the road about 20 miles out of Georgetown. I'm hoping Bemani ro Kostamojen will do some recon this weekend and report back. We would, of course, incorporate Salmon Falls and HWY49 into the mix.

3) A big loop involving HWY26. We would still have to work out the loop details, but it would involve HWY26 and a few other adjoining roads.

You can also add a suggestion as a reply.

If we do option#1, the Sac folks can meet up anywhere we like and then drive to the Unocal on the west side of HWY113 and Covell Blvd to meet the Davis folks. We can picnic at V. Sattui or Lake Berryessa.

For the other options, we will start from our usual spot: the parking lot adjacent to the Unocal on the corner of Auburn-Folsom Road and Greenback in Folsom. We can BBQ at my place after the drive.

Start time: 7:00am
This means we leave at 7am (got that Kevin?).

Damn, I think I'm going to be in Vegas
Also I think there would be quite a bit of traffic near Berryessa, being Memorial Weekend and all.

Ya, same with Napa. We may be better off sticking to the Sac mountain backroads. I was really surprised that last year on Mosquito Ridge we only ran into a couple of slow cars (and the Miata club).

I didn't vote for Wentworth because I drive that way too often, but may I suggest going opposite of our usual route if we do drive there?

if you guys were into gravel the knoxville route would be a blast you could take rieff rd (gravel portion) to rayhouse and cross cache creek up onto hwy 16 then back to hwy 505 but around the lake cops will be everywhere so dont think it would be a fast trip in that section

Second that. I'm not worried about dings, but my car is too low and stiff for anything but a freshly resurfaced gravel road, and a lot of us who would be going have lower, stiffer cars than mine.

Yes there is telling what will happen. Any decent-sized drive anywhere near the lake will look more like a parade than a rally.
