Error Code 66- Faults & Fixes
I want to start a thread for people who currently have E66's, and are looking for guidance in fixing them. I've seen the problem discussed many times, so it seems common enough. But I've never seen many resolutions and fixes.
If anybody has had these previously and have successfully managed to diagnose, locate and fix the error, can you please post details of your experience and findings.
Thanks

I have a 1996 Legacy GT. (BG Rev B, EJ20, Twin Turbo, 5spd).
It has an E66. which we simply can't track down.
Generally (for my model) an E66 is caused by vaccum leaks, either in the vaccum lines or the vaccum canister itself.
My mechanic has extensively tested each of the vacuum components, looking for leaks with no luck.
A second shop (supposedly a subaru expert) simply swpped the vacuum solenoid box, stating we've fixed 5 of these before and it's always been the box. They where wrong. It did not fix the problem. So the original box was refitted.
We couldn't find an obviously faulty part, and are now working through substituting parts until we find the guilty party.
Swapped vaccum box. No joy. Swapped back.
Swapped computer. No Joy. Swapped back.
Replaced MAP sensor. No joy.
The Primary turbo bleed valve/solenoid thingey ahs been tested as ok.
Now what?
I'm considering mebbe it's an iffy BOV. And so i'm considering swapping those. But this appraoch is frustrating and getting expensive.
Has anybody got any ideas of what we could reasonably expect to be the guilty party? Or a clear diagnostic path to isolate the error?

Code 66 = Sequential Turbo System.
Has your GT got a big bore exhaust?
If it has I find it raises the boost on the secondary turbo. More so if the rear muffler is a straight through type.
I find the code appears when the turbo gets up to about 14 lbs and over.
Try a rear muffler that creates a bit of back pressure and that should lower the boost.

Hi guys,
Last year i also had the 66 error on my 94 RS which was driving me nuts in trying to sort out, i got told it was the BOV getting stuck, but they checked out ok, then after a few more weeks of this i checked out the TPS, and found that it was stuck on 7, replaced it with a recondition one and since then have not seen th error again.
Good luck in finding your solution.
