A few quesitons:

1. Is putting this EJ20TT engine into a 96 outback possible?

Short Answer: No.
Long Answer: Yes.

These motors only fit Right-Hand-Drive vehicles because of the way the turbo-piping is routed around the steering mechanism. SO, if you want to manufacture nearly 100% of the turbo-piping, go for it. Otherwise, it is by no means a drop-in solution.

 

Also one more question, will the 5 speed tranny fit in my car i would assume so, and if not will the 4 speed auto i have now work with it?

 

yes It can be done, The guy who owns Rota (I think) did it. Although it would be cool and unique it would be a pain in the *** whenever anything went wrong with it. Nobody in the states has ever worked on those motors. Plus they are designed to run on thier nice fuels. WRX swap would be lots easier.
Get a RHD postal legacy and it will drop right in! TOTAL sleeper

 

Easy answer is to get a turbo kit for the engine you have. Kit will bolt in and you will not have all the headaches. AVO will fit O/B, you could ask Ludespeed, they might be able to make one.

Engine Swap to EJ20 or EJ22t(t) is a PITA. Many things do not fit. Everything from the electronics to the frame crossmember to the a/c.
