There's a big SIA plant in Lafayette, Indiana. They make a lot of Nissan's there too.

makes you really wonder why ford chevy dodge, say they can not make any money with 23$ an hour labor, so they have to go to mexico to make there focus or neon, and come back here and still sell it for top buck, like they paid american wages for it, and Japanese companies come hear to set up work and different plants and still get quaility. american car companies just want to be greedy and rip off american people, and it also shows that american wages are not the problem, there engineering is. japan and germany seem to be doing just fine here paying americans to build there cars, while the americans companies are pulling out and going for cheper labor, in mexico, or india. a$$holes.

indiana is where they make all the legacy's and outback editions as well. if u look on the rear window it has a sticker stating it was made in indiana(which is beyond me) unless they opened a new plant, that should be the place they will produce the new ones as well.

I shoulda asked Ryan Plum (SOA R&D guy) when he was over yesterday. He had an '05 turbo he was driving.

The Lafayette IN plant used to make Isuzu trucks but not anymore. It's all Subaru. IIRC, the labour isn't UAW so it's probably a bit cheaper for them. Also, FHI saves $$$ on tariffs on SUVs/cars if they're built over here.

Don't blame the engineers, it's the guys upstairs that force them to design the cheapest possible means of building the car. The big three have deep pockets and we've been seeing a trend of buying image and quality through other manufacturers, i.e. Daimler Chrysler, Ford - Volvo, Jaguar, GM - Saab.

Hey gdogg,

Why is the Legacy being made in Indiana beyond you? If you are suggesting that Indiana auto workers are sub par, I must correct your thinking. My father works at an auto factory that makes car parts for various GM vehicles. He does not work at the Subaru plant, but I'm sure that reliable workers such as him do. I lived in Indiana till I was 18 and moved out to Colorado for college. I miss it every day.
