Where can I find lots of newbie info?
Where can I find lots of newbie info?
We're going to be getting a '97 Outback Limited for the wife. Where can I learn about specs, real gas milage, common effective mods, transmission, head and block info, ect? How about max. power levels with stock internals and such? Thank you!

Everything you do depends on how you would like to go about it and what you plan to do with it. First off, check www.edmunds.com for gas milage and stock specs. Now for you modding question:
Eventually to reach true power potentials you will need to Turbo. There are multiple ways of doing this though.
1) Turbo kit: EJ25 has MANY turbo kits out there availible, just find a 2.5RS turbo kit and there you have it. 2.5l turbo.
2) Engine Swap: IMO, the easier way to go. Basically, all Subaru engines will bolt on to any Subaru platform. So, in other words, you can find a Japanease EJ20 engine and simply bolt it right on, with limited modifications. You can also put in a USDM WRX motor very easily as many people on this board have. It is all just how you want to do it.
Trasmission:
Subaru transmissions are fairly well built with the exception of the WRX tranny which works but isnt very tough.
Internals:
This all depends on how you want to go about it. A EJ25 NA have fairly tough internals but would need to be replaced about 300hp from my understanding. A JDM STi EJ20 are super strong internals that can handle close to 350hp stock.
Hope this helps
Cheers
