i am curious why the 04-05 models are more desireable. does it essentially have an sti engine? what's the difference between the 04-05 versus the 06+ engine?

Would probly be better if you checked their forums (eastbaysubaru's link) for that kind of detail.

The 04-05 Foresters have an STi motor in them.

'06- shares their motor with the WRX.

'09 on is only available in an AT, no MT's available unless you do a conversion.

interesting! never knew that.

Also, IIRC, the final drive ratio (4.444) was supposed to be different too. Higher final drive, easier climbing mountains and good for acceleration, but bad for MPG. 06+ got the 4.111 f/d ratio. apparently 1st gen xt's could handily beat the wrx's same year and many other sporty cars. great sleeper wagon and something i wish i had room for!
