SOHC to DOHC??

im sure its been asked many times but i dont see it anywhere. Can i swap out my 2000 LGT sohc and put in say, a 99 DOHC 2.5 and everything be the same? im still trying to fix my damn car. Now im thinking of swapping out the engine since i cant fix mine. would that be the easiest to do? if i cant find the same engine. any help guys. ALSO. Its for sale if interested. http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/1358959661.html thanks

You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. The redesign of the EJ25 for the 2000 Legacy made the same horsepower, but the torque is far, far better in the SOHC engine due to some refinements and changes.

I'm getting ready to do exact opposite. Switching 2.5 to 2.2. I find 2.2 much more reliable & durable. You asked if safe to do,it is but Why?
