differential question

Hello,
I'm not really sure how exactly legacy center differential works. I just bought old 91 legacy GL, and because i like messing with it on ice sometimes (winter is here ), i'm just curious if some situations wouldn't hurt differential or transmission. For example if wheels quickly change direction of rotation etc. I guess there can't be enough grip on icy surface to cause any harm to drivetrain, but anyway.
Thanks in advance for any help.
