A rear wheel bearing failure is actually a well documented problem. So far nobody has gotten a clear reason from the dealerships or SOA about why it happens.

 

see if your diff needs posi traction additive look in your owners
book it sounds that way to me!

 

Take it to the dealership and let them check it for the bearing cause if its the bearing it will be covered under the warranty.

 

Check on www.scoobymods.com I think they might have it listed over there. A local guy had the same problem and actually had three of them go out on his car. The dealerhsip never would give him a definate reason why they do that. The majority of the time when its like what you described then its usually a bad wheel bearing.

 

I thought that Subaru was aware of the problem of wheel bearings going bad on some RS's, so they told their dealers replace the bearings with Legacy bearings to fix the problem.

They usually don't replace them until they go out. They never replaced mine. They also haven't replaced my orignal MAF sensor yet. Then again I don't have the time to leave them my car for an entire day to simply do the sensor when I know it only takes 15min at best.

 

IS it the front diff of rear in eather case the oil in the diff feeds
oil down tube and that lubes the wheel bearings make sure oil is not resticked from comming down the axel tube to the bearing

 

What I mean is that I heard that the delearships had a service bulletin that said if an RS comes in with bad wheel bearings, replace the bad ones with Legacy bearings. They still charge you for it though, which I disagree with becuase they recognize that there is a problem which is why they are using Legacy bearings, but they charge you for it even though it is their engineering flaw.

Its it goes bad and its under warranty I don't see how they could charge me for it. However I see your point also about the design flaw. If they recognize its there then why not just change it and not charge the owner for the new parts. I guess its another reason why Subaru of America won't be selling me another car for a very long time.

 

So SOA admits its a faulty design but wants the consumer to pay for the repairs huh? Yep and people wonder why I'd rather buy an Evo then a Subaru.
