2005 Legacy At A Glance
Models: Legacy 2.5i / Legacy 2.5i Limited / Legacy 2.5 GT / Legacy 2.5 GT Limited
All-New Model for 2005
• Thoroughly redesigned fourth-generation All-Wheel Drive Legacy model line is spearheaded by Legacy 2.5 GT, which is powered by a 250-horsepower intercooled / turbocharged DOHC 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine.
• Other Legacy models are powered by a revised 168- horsepower normally aspirated SOHC 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine (PZEV certification in states where mandated).
• Legacy 2.5 GT Sedan and Wagon models combine strong emotional appeal with intelligent engineering and will compete with premium performance sport sedans and wagons. Legacy 2.5 GT Limited models feature additional luxury content.
Key Facts
• Bold new design expresses dynamic performance and nimbleness. Pronounced wedge body shape conveys a low and stable presence, accentuated by aerodynamic side ground effects. Coefficient of drag (Cd) is 0.28 for sedan and 0.30 for wagon. Functional hood scoop supplies outside air to the engine-mounted intercooler.
• Wheelbase has been increased from 104.3 inches to 105.1 inches; overall length increased by just under two inches. New, stiffer unitized body structure makes greater use of aluminum and high-strength steel, as well as advanced construction techniques including tailored-blank welding and hydroforming. Aluminum parts include the hood and bumper beams and the rear gate on wagons.
• Intercooled / turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine produces 250 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 250 lb-ft. of peak torque @ 3,600 rpm. Engine features Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system and Active Valve Control System (AVCS) variable valve timing technology that optimizes engine’s volumetric efficiency at all engine speeds.
• Legacy 2.5 GT offers a choice between a heavy-duty 5-speed manual transmission or an all-new 5-speed electronic direct control automatic transmission with a SPORTSHIFT feature for manual control when desired (using floor shift handle or steering wheel buttons). The new automatic transmission uses a lateral-G sensor and cornering logic to select and hold the appropriate gear to enhance cornering performance.
• Built on a new version of the company’s proven Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame safety structure, the 2005 Legacy models feature as standard front seat side impact air bags, new side curtain air bags and new intelligent dual-stage deployment front air bags. Active front head restraints can help reduce the potential for whiplash injury in a rear collision, and a new safety brake pedal system can help reduce lower leg injury in
a frontal collision.
• Standard 4-wheel-disc Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).
• Three types of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive: models with 5-speed manual transmission use a viscous-coupling locking center differential to distribute the power 50/50 front to rear. Slippage at either set of wheels sends more power to the other set of wheels. Legacy 2.5 GT and 2.5 GT Limited models equipped with the 5-speed automatic transmission use Variable Torque Distribution (VTD), which manages power distribution using a planetary center differential and an electronically controlled continuously variable hydraulic transfer clutch. The system normally sends more power to the rear wheels to enhance handling agility, and it continuously adjusts power distribution in response to driving and road conditions. Legacy 2.5i and Legacy 2.5i Limited models will offer an optional 4-speed automatic transmission, with an AWD system that uses an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch to actively control power distribution in response to driving conditions.
• MacPherson type strut front suspension uses aluminum lower L-arms to reduce unsprung weight. A wider track and revised geometry enhance handling and stability. Multilink rear suspension attaches to a new, hydroformed steel sub-frame for added rigidity, and the roll center has been lowered to enhance handling and stability.
• Legacy 2.5 GT chassis is fortified for high-performance driving, including quicker steering ratio and 17 x 7-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 215/45ZR-17 all-season
tires. The brake system uses larger front rotors than other Legacy models, as well as ventilated rear discs (solid discs on other models).
• Redesigned interior uses high-quality materials to enhance the driver’s environment and passenger comfort: flush surface treatments, soft foam upper dashboard, soft foam door trim and, on Legacy 2.5 GT models, performance-design front seats, electroluminescent instrumentation and aluminum side sill covers with the Subaru logo.

It sounds expensive... gonna have to start saving my pennies to get the Wagon GT Limited. Dual panel sunroof is too much to pass up. Goodbye WRX Wagon, hello Legacy Wagon.
Anyone know if the Turbo is going to have the Forester's little intercooler, or a WRX-sized intercooler, or an STi-sized IC?
