PSP : first glance

Hey all,

I work for a game company here in the bay, and we just got in a couple of japanese PSP's with ridge racer - i gotta say the thing is pretty awesome. I know that everyone is down on it, but after watching a group of coworkers race against each other wireless, with graphics that literally blow away the DS. We still need to see how fast the batteries go, but if they at all have any life to them - i think the PSP will own DS.

I dont know about which version really, but it appears to have every track from the whole series - or at least thats what my boss tells me. I dont think its just a simple port - the psp is wierd to develop for, so it may be part-new. I got into an argument about drifting with one of the nerdy programmers after i made fun of how easy it was to drift in ridge racer.

Him.
"they really do that, i've seen them"

Me.
"I know, but its not as easy as throwing the car sideways and letting it go around a corner"

"yes it is, they use special tires"
"no, they dont, and its not"
"yes it is, they use special rear wheel drive cars"
"i know they use rear wheel drive cars - jesus christ - but its a controlled slide - the car doesn't just slide sideways by itself"
"i've seen them do it"
"uh huh, it's not this easy - you have to dance on the pedals to keep the car going where you want while sliding"
"well, they just burn out the whole time - they have tons of horsepower"
"uhg..."

this is a completely new installment of the series, and it's called "ridge racers" since it has brought back tracks and cars, and reiko from previous games.

i dont know if PSP will own DS. sure, it's way more sexy. and has better graphix.. but guess what? xbox has better graphix and can do more than ps2.. but ps2 owns xbox. its all about the games.. i think they'll both be able to coexist together.

Y's for psp looks crazy good.

BUT, Nintendo has Yakuman aka Nintendo Mah Jong.. that game ALONE may convince me to keep the DS i have lying around.

also, if PSP is region locked.. forget it.. i wont even consider it.

I thought the 1st batch of PSPs were buggy & crappy?

I also heard loading time could mean walking away to take a dump then coming back & still waiting...

Yeah don't these new portables seem to have alot of dead pixel problems???

I'll probably buy the PSP for Gran Turismo ............ I cannot resist.

PSP over DS for sure. Looks better, is not region locked, plays mp3's, mpegs, will have dvd quality movies out for it later on, wi fi, tons of games including GT4 Mobil... what else would you want. DS is nice with two screens but I will opt for the huge 4.3" screen in a smaller, more quality product.

Oh yeah...since you can have mp3's and what not, are they stored in the internal memory or do they use the memory stick? both would be nice. I cant wait tell march!
