performance wise, both cars are pretty much equal. the differences between them are negligable, IMO. for me it would come down to which car i liked better based on looks and drivability. i imagine the MR would have a nicer everyday ride than an STI w/ RA "tarmac" suspension but i honestly dont know, and ride quality is also something that comes down to personal prefernce. i dont mind a rough ride (thats why i have coilovers) so i'd probably go with the STI. but thats just me...

Evo MR. no question. its faster, has better handling, looks more aggresive, has better modability, recaro seats, bilstein shocks, etc.

i guess you havent seen the best motoring dvd where the they race evos against sti's. they had mr's and spec c and the spec c always wins...

I don't know how much faster the Evo MR is to the STI but if you are looking for handling then the EVO MR is the way to go.

AYC is an EVO feature/term, but 05 STi does have a yaw sensor added to its active differential.

You are correct that the Spec C won, BUT EVO MR. was dead last and with many cars in front of you it is a challenge to get from last to 1st place. The MR was 3rd or 2nd. Im not sure. Don't get me wrong, I love Subes and they are almost equal to the EVo's, but in the end, the EVO from factory will outhandle and most likely beat the STi in many other factors (speed, acceleration, etc)

my $.02

also, in almost EVERY STi test/comparison video, Subaru has tremendous understeer. Im not comparing, im just giving facts now.

If you want the best handling in stock form go for the MR .... I can totally understand where you are coming from, because I had the same dillemma for the longest time but the EVO won out and I haven't looked back after that ... but you need to drive both cars before you make up you mind and buy what you can live with. I drove my friends EVO and fell in love instantly ....

DaWorstPlaya has a good point. "..... buy what you can live with"

I was unable to afford the STi or MR , so I just got the WRX since there is nothing under the Evo except the Lancer which is a non-turbo crappy car to me ( anyone has a Lancer here, sorry, keke)

im happy cause I have money left over and could modify a not so expensive car with tons of tunability.

I also drove an Evo and as soon as Ijust backed out of my friends garage I already fell in love with it, hahah. but seriously, as soon as I took one turn, I fell in love. The handling is NIGHT and DAY compared to a Subaru.

yes but the Spec C isnt available in the US. so its still MR vs. STi and the MR will win, hell the regular Evo will still beat an STi any day of the week (unless ur doing a drag race, and we all know these arent dragsters).

But our STi also isn't a regular JDM STi either, it's half way between their STi and their Spec C. USDM MR also isn't a JDM MR and its missing few goodies. In terms of who beating who, the Evo is probably little faster on tarmac but on other surface maybe not.

Then there are other non performance factors when buying a car. Otherwise you would see more domestics on the road.

does the evo mr clutch really wear after three 3000 miles even if i dont launch the car alot?

will the evo mr really lose control if i lay off the throttle in a high speed? will it be prone to accidents if i lay off the throttle in corners?

but, wont the sti with "tarmac" or spec c suspension handle just as well as the evo mr as well as reducing understeer?
No, it won't "handle" as well and I have one reason for you, 12:1 (or something close to that) quick ratio steering rack where as the STi has 15:1. While it may get the same skidpad nos. ie you can take corners at the same speed as an MR, you won't have the nimbleness of the EVO. You can buy a quick ratio steering rack from revlab for the Suby but that is additional money ...... One thing I like about the WRX is it can take tighter turns thanks to a smaller turning radius compared to the EVO ..... The way I see it, if I buy a EVO I don't have to do squat about suspension work, because for me, out of the box handling and cornering is perfect .... hey what can I say I'm lazy

With the MR, expect to pay a premium because there will only be 1000 units made for the US. You're not going to get any bargaining power or manufacturer incentives with the MR. If money is really not that big of a deal and you just want the car with the better performance numbers and the choice is b/w the STi or the MR, the MR wins by a hair. Motor Trend did a good comparo between the two a couple months back.
