i am considering buying a car and selling my 98 240sx. the only two cars i want to buy is a 2005 evo mr or a 2005 sti. i prefer handling over anything else in a car. i like tackling corners. i was going to initially buy the evo mr but i am undecided as of now, because of the 2005 sti. i have done some research on both cars but still dont know what to get. well here is my dilemma...
a 2005 evo mr vs. 2005 sti w/ spec c type ra " tarmac" struts and springs?
i am basically only interested in handling. the mr is est at 35000 while the sti is est at 33000, (35000) if i get the "tarmac" springs and struts. so basically they will roughly cost about the same if i get the suspension kit. i really like both cars. i like the sti for all its quality and i really like the evo mr for its handling. i was upset that neither has a AYC. the " tarmac" suspension will give me better handling than the evo mr if i am correct, so as of now i am leaning towards the sti with type ra suspension. better handling at about the same price. evo mr 35000 - sti with tarmac suspension 35000. but would like to hear what others think. i probably wont mod either car except for exhaust after the first six months.
i really want a sti spec c type ra.....!!!! kekeke
if im wrong about the spec c type ra struts and springs giving me better handling than the evo mr pls tell me. thanx.

performance wise, both cars are pretty much equal. the differences between them are negligable, IMO. for me it would come down to which car i liked better based on looks and drivability. i imagine the MR would have a nicer everyday ride than an STI w/ RA "tarmac" suspension but i honestly dont know, and ride quality is also something that comes down to personal prefernce. i dont mind a rough ride (thats why i have coilovers) so i'd probably go with the STI. but thats just me...

my $.02
also, in almost EVERY STi test/comparison video, Subaru has tremendous understeer. Im not comparing, im just giving facts now.
If you want the best handling in stock form go for the MR .... I can totally understand where you are coming from, because I had the same dillemma for the longest time but the EVO won out and I haven't looked back after that ... but you need to drive both cars before you make up you mind and buy what you can live with. I drove my friends EVO and fell in love instantly ....
DaWorstPlaya has a good point. "..... buy what you can live with"
I was unable to afford the STi or MR , so I just got the WRX since there is nothing under the Evo except the Lancer which is a non-turbo crappy car to me ( anyone has a Lancer here, sorry, keke)
im happy cause I have money left over and could modify a not so expensive car with tons of tunability.
I also drove an Evo and as soon as Ijust backed out of my friends garage I already fell in love with it, hahah. but seriously, as soon as I took one turn, I fell in love. The handling is NIGHT and DAY compared to a Subaru.

thanx for all the info. i really appreciate it. im really in a bust.
does the evo mr clutch really wear after three 3000 miles even if i dont launch the car alot?
will the evo mr really lose control if i lay off the throttle in a high speed? will it be prone to accidents if i lay off the throttle in corners?
but, wont the sti with "tarmac" or spec c suspension handle just as well as the evo mr as well as reducing understeer?

Then there are other non performance factors when buying a car. Otherwise you would see more domestics on the road.

With the MR, expect to pay a premium because there will only be 1000 units made for the US. You're not going to get any bargaining power or manufacturer incentives with the MR. If money is really not that big of a deal and you just want the car with the better performance numbers and the choice is b/w the STi or the MR, the MR wins by a hair. Motor Trend did a good comparo between the two a couple months back.
